Ok, Gonna jump in the fray again..at least its a Z1 this time,....ran across a Z1 Manufactured. 09-72 Frame Number was 00226 I think, engine number was close to that also anyway, guy wants $10K for it!!, has been sitting covered up in a garage for at least 12 years , hasn't run since then .still has original pipes appears to be mostly all there although a Little rough., bike would need total restoration from what I saw.
Does that price sound way too high for a 72 -Z1 that has sat for 12 years , hasn't run at least 12 years and needs serious restoration??
No, I didnt take a picture. I probaby don't have the 10K anyway, but just curious if its worth that?? Yeah, the guy has the title.
At least it was more up my alley than the Suzuki...

Ebay has caused a lot of grief. Make him a offer then suggest he put it up on eBay. If it sells, good, if not your offer still stands. We all know even if it sells, it won't necessarily be bought and paid for. Aside from deadbeat bidders, there are also scammers to contend with. Ebay makes out no matter what. He may know this already and is playing on what he's seen there.

If he puts it on eBay, 90% chance it'll sell and near his asking price, and it WILL go overseas to japan or europe.

Offer him 6k for it, if he bites, you're good, if not, I'm sure one of our resident Z1 lovers would be happy to play ball too. I wouldn't let it hit the interwebs if you can

Its worth it if all the stuff is there and not broken. The carbs go for over $1000. Those restorations are tricky, the buyers in that realm are very picky.

Sounds interesting! It's right at the transition time & VIN #'s. Up to first 2,000 had the ribless carbs and the front fork legs being the sqaure lug shape. Had black foam in the seat. If it is all correct and never butchered, yes! it's worth it.
Find an investor partner, friend, family with $$! Just like the TV shows. Go look again and pull out $7,500 green backs and flash them in his face. I'd lay odds he says yes. That's if the bike is correct and turns over fine. Buy it and flip it if you can't afford to keep it.
Is it nice enough to just clean and detail it? Or is paint faded?
I would be all over it if I was close.
How many chances do you get to buy an early Z1?
Go for it!

One of these days when I hit the lottery I know where theres a 10/72 built z1 sitting in the back of a certain barn thats going to get restored.
I payed $2500.00 for it and a basket case 75 5-6 years ago,no origional pipes and a 70s greenish gold metalflake job that would make omr break out his old polyester leisure suit and hit the clubs! :woohoo:
One of the advantages of living 50 miles from the old kaw plant makes kzs fairly common to trip over,z1s just take a little more work. ;)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

Engine # should be 250's.

Do some research on what the bike "should" have, date codes, etc. Like etbike said, parts are crucial on those and ones loaded up with shiny aftermarket crap aren't worth anything.

I'd try to buy it for 8-9k and just flip it, IF it had all the right parts.
