Installed the master cylinder and Rh control on the bars today. Not gonna bore ya with photos. The polisher is killing me, 2 weeks now and not started on the lower forks yet...

Not related but was going thru old photos a few nights ago and found pictures of the reasons I’m doing this. A 1978 650 c2 and my big bore 1976 KZ900 LTD. Photos from mid ‘80’s

I have never seen that tool Mikaw. Could you make one up from a piece of Delrin rod? Just need to know dimensions if it a straight shaft. Was that a new tube of sealant you took the tube from?

Buy a cheap set of plastic funnels and cut out the Diameter you need for the MC bore. No more or less.
Or ask your local car repair shop for empty cans and funnel in the garbarge like this i had used for the MC rebuild.

old tube that was hardened no loss. I don’t have a lathe. But yes it could be made...

I've done a few sets of forks now. I sand out all the scratches, taking care to keep them looking round. Then I aqua blast them and give them a final buffing to sharpen them up just a little. I don't over buff them because I want them to look original. I've been told they were also clear coated from the factory but I don't remember my original Z1 having coating on anything other than the carb tops.

HRM, those look great... I have another ‘76 set if the polished set don’t look correct... I thought it would be ok to add a little shimmer to the from as I have had the rear brake plate polished... again I have a backup of that also if they don’t look right...

Ok, been a minute. I guess getting items polished and plated in the middle of summer isn’t a good idea. Plater said he needed time for a graduation party and the polisher told me again “ I have you slotted in for this coming week “ same thing I heard 10 days ago.

Anyway I went digging for parts to see what else I could pretty up while waiting, and foun this. I remember it had a scratch in it and I tried to wet sand it out... well not happy I found it this way. Without know what to do I wet sanded more, got up to 1200 paper and thought it looked good till it dried...

What are my options, I want to keep it as it in perfect condition other than my booboo. And it says made in USA on the inside... need some help!

The Made in U.S.A. is interesting, I had no idea they were already sourcing plastic parts here in 1976! As far as returning the shine to your piece all I can do is guess, wax, buffing?

Last fall, while waiting for parts for my engine rebuild I pulled out a scratched up inner fender to see if I could make it look new again.

The first photo shows it after removing the main gouges. I think I was up to about 1000 grit at that time.



The next two photos were using increasingly finer grit wet/dry paper. I think I was up to 3,000 grit in the second photo, and you can see a new reproduction fender on the RHS





Then I got serious and ordered some 5,000 and 10,000 grit.

Then I got really serious and ordered a bottle of Megur's abrasive polish. The one I was working on is the left one.



By that time my parts arrived so I set everything aside. I think a couple of more years of polish and I'll have it!!

did you hand sand or use a sander? I have a junk one that I can practice on... wonder if after the Abbresive polish you could clear coat it to increase the sheen... good to see that it’s not junk... at least not yet... elbow grease is some amazing stuff.
