I'm not familiar with the fork on that model (there's a spring and a pipe inside each fork leg I guess?), but in any case, Kawasaki uses the same spring on the '83-'85 GPz 750s.

Got my new grips in today, heading down to work on the bike tonight as well as install these bad boys. Will take pics of the cleaned up sparkly carbs, master cylinder and a few other things to show current progress.

Well be warned the following is pic heavy!

Got to put in about 2 hrs in the garage last night, got off work a bit late and the kiddo blew up the downstairs with milk so ended up with less time than I expected. That being said I was able to get the old grips off and new grips on, hairspray worked so friggin' well to make getting them on a complete cinch. Surprisingly I also had the majority of the carb parts show up so instead of sanding the MC I started rebuilding the carbs as much as parts allow. They are now nearly fully rebuilt with new float valve assemblies (old ones were boogered up removing them) and new choke boots as well as cleaned and polished emulsion tubes and jets etc. Just waiting on gaskets for the bowls and the plastic/rubber for connecting the engine to the carb banks, boots or whatever you want to call them.

This is how she sits at the moment......

Hahaha hell yeah, should be on the road and riding by March 13th :D The new tank has some serious work that it needs internally to get 30+ years of crap out of it. So while we are prepping and getting that ready will use the old tank in the mean time so she is ridable. And since its a direct swap, easy to just pull the fuel sender and petcock from the old one and stab it in the new one when we swap over. Plus the dent on the new one still needs to be popped.

Its all coming together

Thanks Steve and Larriken, great minds think alike was already planning on putting in an extra fuel filter in line like this :)

Machined black and red anodized aluminum bar ends came in yesterday, but with today being the Kiddo's bday and getting ready for everything didn't have time to work on em yesterday. Will post up some pics tomorrow when I can work on them a bit.

Thanks,
Brett

Here are the MIT Racing black and red bar ends, will get a better pic on the bike after I machine them to accept the threaded inserts that are pressed into my GPz bars stock.

Thanks Steve makes sense. Assuming I go progressive springs I've read that 15W oil is the right choice, any thoughts on that?

Heard that my parts for my carbs finally came in this evening and hope to be heading down to Pops' shop tomorrow night after work to finish the rebuild on the carbs and get the carb bank back together and in the bike. Also go my bar ends as well but need to machine the bolt hole to accept the original hardware which it will wonderfully I believe. Will fiddle with the grips too to match them up so there isn't a gap between the ends and the end of the grip. May need to do a bit of massaging on the throttle side, we shall see.

After changing fluids in the case she should be ready to fire back up after I rebuild the petcock for the old gas tank. Have a new tank from a donor 85 GPz750 black and red also but the inside is flash rusted and has 30 years of crap in it so will take some time and work getting that back to golden. In the meantime will use my old tank and rebuilt petcock and when the new tank is good to go will just swap over the petcock and fuel sender and bolt it back in. Birthday is coming up in early March and want to be able to ride by then so time to get busy.

Post and pics to come.,
Brett

I'm using 15W in mine. It's good to have a spare tank. Looks like I'll be switching mine from year to year. If it's not rock dings, paw scratches, (the four and two legged kind) or just my stupidity, I find more and more blemishes on my tank. Bossie's a daily rider so I can't expect her to be pristine all the time. All that matters is she "turns my crank." :woohoo:
