1979 was the only year that said MKII on the side covers. The 1980 came out it was referred to mostly as the "standard" even though it was mostly the same as the 1979 MKII. The 80 sold a lot less than the 79 model, but the 79 is more valuable to most. The MKII was a beauty for sure either year. I've had my 79 for 33yrs now.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Ron is correct, 79 Mark II. The 1980 was just an A-4.
I remember now Kawasaki selling Black painted one's for $1,999 brand new.
No one liked the squared off style, like the Z1R's no one wanted them. Dealers had 2&3 year old new stock.

Livin in "CheektaVegas, NY
Went thru 25 of these in 40 yrs.
I SOLD OUT! THE KAW BARN IS EMPTY.
More room for The Old Girl, Harley 75 FLH Electra Glide,
Old faithful! Points ign. Bendix Orig. carb.
Starts everytime!

GREAT find,, the chain drive MKII's are as desirable as the 78-80 Z1R's, not many of either of those models were sold, I guess because people didn't like the squarish fuel tanks, I know I hated them back in the day, but I wish I had one now, :(

I have a new project and will need help when I inevitably get lost so here it is. A friend of mine gave me a 1980 a4 that he has stored since 1990 it has 1900 org miles and is complete an d turns over. I want to restore it back to original it's black with gold pin stripes. I will post pictures soon but if anyone has advise on the proper way to proceed I would greatly appreciate it thank you.

you have good friends ;)

Very nic acquisition.

Is it just me or do pipes look like uneven lengths in the pics showing the license plate??? Just an observation.

BEAUTIFUL bike though.
