Yes,Im much happier with it now.I trimmed the last bit today and fitted the number plate,so,thats that off the list.
I did get a nice treat this afternoon.My stainless brake pistons and caliper seal kit arrived;
and the new brake lines I ordered were also in
I spent yesterday working on the rear brake, cleaning it up,polishing the bolts and fitting the torque arm.Though I still need new pistons and seals for it (the ones that arrived today were for the ZXR front calipers) but Im nearly there with the brakes anyway.
I find myself jumping around the bike from here to there in a very chaotic way.Im at the stage now where I need to sit down and make a proper list of everything thats left to do and try and go through it in an organised way (is that laughter I hear?)
We'll see.

'nuther first today.
First time with powdercoating. Not a perfect result but good enough for a first attempt and it was fun to do!
From the top. Headlight bowl, headlight rim, coil mounts and rear engine mounts.
Headlight bowl( a rough type of matt) and rim (satin)
I like the contrast
and the best part is,I got rid of all the chrome!!

No chrome for me.Too shiny and you have to polish it to keep the rust at bay.Which means you have to wash the bike!
Regularly!
No thanks. The only chrome you need is on your fork tubes.
Anyway,I put the coils together today with my freshly powdercoated brackets and SS bolts.Very nice.
Do I need to scrape off the powdercoat here to earth the coils??
I like to mark things when I take them apart so I know where everything goes when it comes time to put it all together again . I did so with the coils for the HT cables. Something went wrong .My head was somewhere else and I ended up with this.
I cleaned up some of the looms ancilliary parts ,just a clean and degrease. Now I can work my way through all the bits and cheak the cables and connections etc. There was evidence of a fire on the bike at one time, though everything was working when I got it started. It still needs a good going over.
and Im still farting around with the headlight mount.

Thanks eofa.Kind words, scary profile picture. The real fabbing,Im farming out.I dont have the equipment/knowledge to do it myself, which frustrates me (I should have paid attention in metalwork class in school,so,its my own fault).
Im trying to do as much as I can myself. My welding is wobbly but Im happy with the alu plate work and the fiberglassing and the powdercoating. All these things Im doing for the first time. Its a huge learning curve and Ive realized that Im getting so much out of this build Its great. My head is already starting to wander to the next one!
Also this site is a great help and I enjoy uploading my progress. When people comment, its a real boost.Thank you.
P.S. I still have to say that I have no idea what Im doing ! Im just making it up as I go along!!

OK,the weather here is impoving.A cracking day today,so I pulled my finger out and dragged the frame outside. I decided against powdercoat
as 1. Its not cheap and I still have to find the money for a set of shocks and an exhaust and 2.Im not 100% sure on the welding that I did.If somethings going to crack,I want to be able to see it , repair it,and touch up the paint. So no powdercoat. Im not sure what paint Im going to use yet,I have to look into that but Im not going to farm it out,I want to do it myself.
So,today, frame outside and get it stripped. A few false starts with wire brushes and sanders. No good. Paint stripper was the best option.
Happy with the result, though its only the first go around. I got most of it off but theres still a lot in the joints and around the brackets etc.
If its a nice day tomorrow Ill go over it again and try and get it finished, then take it up to the local garage and go over it with the power washer

Yes,it did cross my mind to keep it bare metal but then I thought No.It going to be black. How black? In the immortal words of the great poet
Nigel Tufnel: It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.
If theres anyone who knows about metal, its Nigel Tufnel

Off to the local power washer with my minions to get rid of any lingering paint stripper
Started sanding off the remains of rust, paint and other kack and found this:
Not happy.More welding to do. I was hoping to get it painted this weekend, now thats out the window.
I did get hold of a bit of 10mm alu plate for my hydraulic clutch conversion. So,I might have a go at that this weekend.I also want to get some more 3 or 4mm plate to make an undertray for the backend.I might be able to get that tomorrow.
