Nice Leon but something like this is what i am building...

www.fabkevin.com/shop/brakes/remote-master-cylinder/

Already bought 2 x 14mm ZX14R rear master cylinders as they are the bore size that i was looking for.

So I have a question to pose to the machining/engineering/thinkin' portion of the board. It comes down to bolted joint design. I am thinking about my securing method of the brake rotors and my cush drive basket to the wheel hubs. My original design requires the use of Flat Head Allen cap screws utiling an 82 degree counter sunk recess in the cush drive basket and brake rotor mounting holes. This would allow flush or very low profile securing for clearance and let me work with the 5/16"-18 fastener bosses on the hubs.

Now engienering practive teaches that button heads and countersunk/flat head Allen fasteners are not to be used in critical joint applications. However, ASTM F835 which specifically addresses this fastener type in its mechanical properties specifcally calls out for use in shear type applications is its designed purpose. Specifically fasteners of this type will have the properties of 145,000 psi Min Tensile and a C39 Min Rockwell specifications for diameters of 1/2" or less. There is no Min Yield or Min Proof for this type of fastener, most likely to the the head design....though i have not found the ACTUAL reason for this.

Does this seem feasible to use them for mounting of my brake rotors and cush drive basket to the wheel hubs? I have clearance issues that I need to deal with. I don't want to cause an unsafe situation. My only other option is to redrill the front hub using a jig and re-use the stock ZRX brake hardware.

Thoughts? Am I nuts?

Thanks Leon. I saw those but $$$$$..... Plus, if they are hidden under the gas tank, why do they need to be that pretty!

The bolts still perplex me, but I could be overthinking it a bit as usual. I bought another 1.5" spacer I happened to find for the dual disc hub I am using. Going to turn it into a drilling jig for hand drilling the front hub incase I decide to go with plan B.

So I am sitting down here in Memphis, TN working on all my in-laws cars and CB750 over Christmas break. Thought I would post up what little work I got to do on the bike when I was spending time with my side of the family last week.

First off, got the new tail fitted to the bike.

Had to remove the seat hinge brackets, helmet loop, and add two cross tubes. Also chopped down the under tail I made until it was a simple positioning bracket.

[IMG

Made a new seat pan that may end up utilizing the stock seat rubbers that will bolt to the tail and provide the support. May also create a rubber support for the tail behind the tail taillight to support the rest of the tail. The last thing I might do is use 4 stainless button heads that go through the sides of the tail near the edge that secure into tabs with rivnuts on the frame.

The seat is raised a bit now due to the rubbers and I am not sure I like the gap, so I may cut the rubbers down or mount using thin rubber blocks. Still playing a bit. The photos are with the pan sitting down directly on the rails. The front being raised, raised the whole thing.

That is it for now.......

You are too kind, but just building a bike the best I can with what I have available! Your bikes are fantastic and I am looking forward to your mono build.

I love the tail. It is a bit "swoopier" than stock. Looking good.

Yeah it is more duck tail like the early Z1, but since it is built more like the gunfighter seats, gives a more curved appearance.

Thanks for the kind words. I think it came out OK since I was just making it from scratch and wanted yo keep the starter gear in place. I still need to make a small exposed belt guard for it where it is near my leg. Will use .125" thick aluminum angle that is the same width as the pulleys. Will use the shrinker/stretcher tool to make it a loop that hugs the belt all the way around.
