1978 Kz1000 Father/Son Project

Looks pretty good so far, nice find on the 1000.

Well the projects slowly coming along, were doing some detail work on the engine now but the reassembly is on hold for the minute. My Dads not really sure what path he wants to take with the bike. He was thinking a mix of Pro Stock and Factory at first and now is leaning towards a mainly factory build with a few personal touches, but he's still not sure. Anyone have any ideas

Haha is there ever! I think he was thinking more along the lines of a very small extended swingarm with a slight increase in tire size while retaining the stock rim. I'm trying to talk him into a 1200 or 1300cc big bore kit but if he does that my Hurricane won't stand a chance against him, then again it probably doesn't now

an 1197 would deal you shit fits on the street but on an open stretch of highway or anything involving a curve i think youll have him! :laugh:

Still no big updates in the project but its slowly coming along. We made a homemade paint booth setup in the shop and started cleaning and painting some of the smaller parts. We also moved around some stuff to make some more room and added my toolbox to give me more space to work on my bikes.

Good looking stuff, nice to see another member from eastern Canada, I'm from NL. I might even be moving to PEI soon.

Finally some more updates! I've been busy with military again lately so havn't been able to keep the progress updated but there has been quite the change since my last post!

Well it's been a VERY long time since this was updated!

Dad got the motor in the frame and the bike back up the stairs into our new garage to start working on it but while this was happening the cylinder block shifted somehow and caused the pistons to gouge some pretty nasty marks into the sleeves, new sleeves are 100% needed and probably pistons as well since there's a few nicks in the corner of 2. This happened about 1 1/2 - 2 years ago and the bike sat ever since. He got busy with work, helping me with a 71 Datsun 510 I was rebuilding, and then recently hurt his back pretty bad at work. His back is fine for day to day stuff but being in a riding position is a no go so he was going to sell the bike. I ended up getying it from him and now the plan is to finish it so he can at least see it being used!

I'm thinking of getting a 1075 big bore kit so I can bore the sleeves enough to get the marks out and replace the sketchy pistons at the same time. With my Datsun just being finished up its time to tackle another project of my own.

And my 510 I just finished building. Pulled it out of a barn 2 years ago and redid everything except the exterior

Very excited to get this finished especially since dad was so disappointed with everything happening.

I would do some gusseting before finishing it. Wish I had.
