i too had a very hard time backing rotor bolts out of a front disk lester mag...they were so friggin slow/hard turning...and even if i went in and out to clear the threads they were still...gummy hard ass barely turning and felt like i was gonna snap or ruin something so i quit and went on to something else...it sits as such today in the shop...
my same question thread yrs back though did turn up the same answers of applying heat and spraying waiting a day and repeating the heat around the bolt area and spraying...heating the hole not the bolt so much
also someone said that there is some knarly lock tight in there and to pre heat em and it will melt/be pliable....remove while still super hot...good luck...lemme know cause i wanna install some trick drilled rotors i'm saving on my lesters ....

I modified these factory parts.
wanted flatheads, have a lot on the bike.
I could not find 10mm 1.25 pitch metrics.
So I countersunk rotor and lower legs.
I used 3/8 sae flatheads with heli-coil inserts.
Did all 8 brake disc bolt holes. And the caliper brackets

Don't holler! They are factory Z1R discs.
They are glass beaded and clear coated in the center.
The fasteners are just black industrial grade A 3/8 bolts
out of the parts room at work. Black powder coat
3/8 course thread, used plenty of blue loctite.
This is not a road bike, only a cruise night, bar hopper

yeah ive let is soak in blaster for about a week now. ill heat it up and try that. there in there pretty good. havent even messed with the other one. the easy out said use a 1/4 inch drill bit and i think it is too big. wish i would have used a smaller one. although you run the risk of breaking it off. Ive got to get another rear rotor. ill be shopping ebay i guess. so ive got a little time. take a look at the these rear pads

Question...
Were the Z1R rear disc drilled and other kz1000's from the same year were solid.
i noticed the rear on mine is drilled and is thicker than the front. it also says 6mm. seen a few on ebay and there are some different ones.
found one on ebay that will work for me. kind of rusty though. he has it listed as a rear lester rotor. $100 or make offer.

Yes the rear on the Z1R were drilled the same as the front.
And the rear is thicker. Be careful when buying one, the rear has about a 1/4 different offset than front discs. So it has to be a rear disc. Other models will work, A KZ is not drilled, an LTD and MKII has some holes drilled, not like the Z1R though.
Don't buy the $100 one!!! Wait and check around this site or watch ebay.
Post a "wanted" ad.
Good luck.

Hey
well ive messing around with the old z1r waiting for parts to fall into my lap. i checked the thickness of the rotor. it has to be at least 6mm. well, no go on that. so i do need a new one. anybody have a 78 z1r rear rotor just laying around?
Ive decided im going to have to put helicoils in the rear wheel where the two bolts are stuck in there. ive heated them for days let them soak and i just cant get em. ive got a 10mm.x1.25 helicoil kit ordered for $50 bucks. if i can get that done and acquire a rear rotor i can paint the rear wheel, buy new rear pads and get all that back on.
What do you guys think about the all black wheels. i seen a z1r on utube and it had all black wheels and black fork covers and it looked good. it was in Japan. i painted the front wheel but not the fork tube cover. i painted with black aluminum wheel paint. i believe the same paint OMR used on his frame.
heres some pics of her so far.

Black is always cool.
Take the time to sand off the thin strip going down each spoke.
You will be happy you did it after your done.
Clean it up after with some scotch pad. It will give the nice detailed look like stock.
