should I cut here? was created by btkz650
I'm building a bobber and want to fit a peanut tank to my kz1000 frame but the frame is in the way of the petcock. Does anyone know if I cut a section out (shown in yellow on the attached) and weld another piece going from the lower section to the top section much like the factory did just to the right of the yellow, would that be strong enough? I'm just not sure how structural the two lower pieces are since they are tied to the top section of the backbone.

I am pretty sure that bar is structural. The backbone actually connects to the side bars in term of force resistance. Not sure how effective moving the connection location would be.

Is the tank painted already? I would think it easier to modify the tank or tank mounts than the frame. Make sure you have all the gas out before you put heat to it.

Okay okay, I get it. It was a really ridiculously stupid question. Guess I already knew the answer but was hoping to hear something that would allow me to use the tank I just bought. I've seen them used on other similar KZ and GS bobber projects and thought it would fit, but they must have done something different to make it work. Must have relocated the petcock on the tank is all I can figure.

Not really. It would only have been a stupid question if you had asked it after cutting the frame. ;)
