Relax scooter, I don't believe its as big a deal as you're thinking it is. Leave the welded collars alone, they're not hurting anything and can stay. In fact, if you add to or remove and replace those tabs for the shock mount, it wouldn't hurt to extend the tab reinforcements with them

At any rate you don't see any harm/danger in attaching new shock mount to those collars...right?
What's that tiny tab on the other side of the cross bar for? The one that appears to be close to center.

Testarrosa is correct, the small centered tab is the centerstand return spring. When I referenced extending the tab reinforcement, I was talking about the "collars" the tabs are welded to. If it were me (and it will be in couple weeks) I would extend the collar a little more on the outside. This will reinforce the tabs you're going to add on the outside of the original tabs to beef them up. Is that any clearer?

As I stated before the swing arm I have is a 02 ninja zx6r. I'm wondering if I'm thinking clearly about this?
It would appear that the dog bone linkage is slightly offset from center the way the swing arm is made. I've decided I'm knocking off the center stand tabs and will be fabricating new beefier mounts for the linkage to attach to frame. OMR stresses having the rear tire dead on center for good reasons. Because of that I've been assuming my linkage was going to attach dead center of the frame. That's a misconception isn't it? Can my linkage attach slightly off center? Say like a half inch? Or do I need to go get a different swing arm? I'm assuming as long as I can get this 02 I have to fit into the frame by slowly grinding each side of the inside frame welded pivot bolt spacers (like OMR demonstrates in his thread) that I'll be able to center the tire afterwords. I just need to make sure I'm understanding the dynamics here...how critical of an issue is the placement of the linkage to frame location in a safety/performance point of view?

It's quite possible that the linkage/shock is offset a little from centerline. Is it an issue? I don't think it is. As long as the linkage is square to the frame, the shock's stroke is square to the swingarm and the shock is centered with the linkage, everything should work just like it's supposed to. But where are the pics? I think you'd get alot more help if you provided some visual info scooter
