Awesome progress! That motor looks just like mine did when I started. Dirty and crusty outside, and fairly clean inside. Beats the alternative.
I'm digging the PVC exhaust. Just don't get her jetted too lean. :pinch: So did you heat it up to make those bends?

call me crazy but in nebraska the initial sand blasting of frame is generally followed by initial priming of said frame!

Dirty & crusty... Ughhh, just makes me sick/pissed to think how someone would abuse her that way... Ah well, she's found a better home and will be cuddled and cared for... Still have to buff the cases out later on but for now, she's happy.... Makes me feel better anyways...
HFT Heat gun, works wonders....
Gears, bearings, crank, rotor, shift drum & shift forks all look clean, no broken teeth/wear markings... When it's time, new seals, o-rings, gaskets, timing components just as in the KZ900 build. OEM Clutch plates & springs as well... Go in once and be done with it...
Pistons & combustion chamber really surprised me the most... That piston image with dome shining through is untouched... Seriously, didn't even wipe it off and all 4 are pretty much the same. Maybe I got lucky.... :woohoo:
Cylinder walls looks clean, no major markings/gouges/scratches down them, sleeves in tight etc... Probably just ball hone, possibly some new rings but other then that, looks mighty fine....
I'll still be sending the head eventually to mi amigo Larry for his craftsmanship and magic... I have a feeling this head has been gone through before so I'll need him to go through as with the KZ900 and do his magic...
I'm feeling this bike truly doesn't have many miles on her... The 2 piece head gaskets weren't stuck to the head (heat) or anything indicating mileage on them.
Or this old girl had some previous work on her...
Ah well, all 4 risers are in place, now to set up a PVC 4-1 collector... And yes, I will be using bullets in the steel builds. Then onto a 3" tail piece... I'm shooting for the 5Krpm power band range in the design.
More images later on...

Hey Roy... Long time no hear...
For those that don't know (Plumi and others do).... the frame is a non titled frame... I found a place here in Prescott AZ that does title searches and such for $350 to start... No guarantees and no partial refunds...
All in all, had to find/obtain another titled frame which I have in Las Vegas Nevada... $200... Life long bud picked it up and is storing it for me...
The frame in the image is for exhaust jig/fabrications. Down the road, may as well cut it up smaller for engine build jig with electrical panels, fuel tank etc... for now, building exhaust pipes will do...
And yes Plumi, you and I have discussed the bared hones vs. ball hones numerous times... I was waiting to see how long it would take you to put a size 10 in my ass... Not bad, took you ~ 5 minutes....

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Is that a stock paint job on you tank for 1978? or is that a 1980 LTD paint job, curious as I have to paint one myself and the colors for that year are either black or cardinal red. Great score, as there is not many left out there. Love to see your end product, good luck to you.

1980 Stock LTD yup... Turns out the new frame is a 1980 as well so it will work out nicely sticking to stock '80 paint scheme...
I will use the same procedures I have all along,
and will stick with what has worked very well for me...
Dupli-color metal cast primer in the silver area... Think metal flake primer. Then gloss black the rest... Edge red brushed paint then shoot the clear coats...
The silver will be cool as hell with flaked appearance in the sunshine....
As with the KZ9, I'm in no hurry what so ever so it will be another 1-2 years before she's done... Sssssshhhhh, wife's in the room...
I want to get a couple pipes fabbed up first then onto the re-build.
