Good to see you guys getting together. I lived in Wichita (53rd North and Meridian area) from 1997 until 2001 but didn't get back into bikes until a few years later up here. Is that place on K15 the dealer just east of the Canal Route on the north side of the road? I never had a reason to stop in there as I've just gone by it many times on my way to Derby.

I stopped in at the big dealer on West Street some years ago to look at some Joe Rocket stuff. I spent about 15 minutes looking at stuff on the rack and no one bothered to come over and see if I had questions so I left and never went back. If they want to complain about people going online to buy stuff, they only have that sort of attitude to blame. :D

Yeah just south of where K15 and I35 meet up. On the east side of the street. I know what you mean about the guys at the west street place. They won't get up and help you if you are looking at gear but if you go up and talk to them they are really nice guys. Better than Kamakazi. That guy had a attitude like I was inconveniencing him because I wanted to order some parts. But some people are like that.

Yeah i got some attitude at Kamikaze too at first, told me they wouldnt work on my bike, too old.... etc. Then they sold me a helmet for 200 , which they had priced at 278. I thought that was cool... wanted one for my son too. They didnt have his size so i went to the MAP on west street and asked em to price match.
I guess I got a good deal.
Another thing about Kamikaze was one guy kept arguing with me that my bike HAD to be either a CSR or LTD, til he looked up the microfiche and was introduced to the J models.
Made me wonder a bit.
Dont mention I told ya that

Oh hey don't worry about that. I don't plan on going back there if I can avoid it. Although I did get a promising lead on my valve job. I'll keep you posted once I know more.

Sigh. When are the bike shops going to realize that there is a larger world out there and people aren't limited to just the local shop? I can see the flip side, but friendly customer service at a local outlet is often rewarded by customer loyalty even when times are hard. Sure, some will window shop, waste time, and then buy online but not everyone is like that.

Good luck, guys.

Oh tell me about it. And it's hard to find around here. Although I did just run into a shop thats looking around for me to find someone who can work on my valves. They are also selling me 3 exhaust clamps for 3 bucks. I can't complain about that. They are very friendly. I'm going to be talking with them tomorrow to get some tips on working on my bike. I think they are going to be a good shop to work with.

My father just past away Wednesday. So the bike project is on hold for the time being. But I am going to complete it and make sure I dedicate something for him on it. I want to thank everyone for your help on my bike and I hope to get it done soon. I know my dad is going to be proud of it.

Sorry about your Dad.

I know it's not Wichita but we have a pretty good KZ mechanic in OKC named Chris Wedman at Wedman Motorsports. He does good work on all Japanese bikes but specializes in KZ's and GS's. Every time I go in there I'm excited to see what kind of bikes have been brought in.

Alright so I'm back into the swing of things and wanted to give you guys an update.

I buried my dad on 6th and it was a beautiful service. I know my dad is in a better place now. Me and my family are doing well all things considered.

I just got a new work schedule 5am-2pm m-f so lots of time to work on the bike.

And here is the big deal. I just did my taxes and they were a lot more than I was expecting. So my project for my KZ900 that was on hold due to money restrictions is now back up and running.

So here is the plan. Either find a new 77 or 78 1000 and transplant parts between them to get the bike I want or fix up the engine on the kz900 and put on a 1015 or 1075 with a new valve job done on the head. I have a bike lined up that I need to check out that is a 77 1000 locally that I might be able to pick up for under a grand. If so and it's in better shape than mine I might have some parts to sell to anyone that needs them. I will keep you updated as to what is going on with everything and will be posting pictures as soon as I have some more.
