Hey everyone, I had another post going in here on my project with some tear down pictures, but it takes so long to load, I'm going to start one for questions, otherwise no one will look because it'll load so slow!

So I finally have the pistons on, cylinders installed and almost ready to paint the frame, i have it in primer now.

So when I took the motor out, I pretty much butchered the front bottom motor mount bolt. It is bent, the threads are gauged badly..... I need a new bolt. Does anyone know the length/dimensions on that bolt? Thread/length...?

Along those same lines, do I need to have that bushing/rubber isolator thing in there? That got butchered as well because it was frozen in there. Does anyone make a replacement fo those? Is it worth it or do I even need it?

Lastly for now, what about a valve spring compressor? Where is the cheapest place to pick one up. The lowest I'm seeing is around $150 and up. Just wondering what everyone else uses.

Thanks everyone! Pics to come hopefully soon!

You can make a valve spring compressor out of a piece of PVC pipe with a slot cut in the side to access the retainer. You compress it using a "C" clamp. Roy

Bump Bump

Thank you Roy, that doesn't seem like a bad idea. I'll have to take a look at the head and see what I need to do.

Any one have any ideas about my motor mount bolt/isolator?

Also curious if anyone has pics of a silver frame and bodywork and maybe with a black motor? I;m thinkin of going this way for colors but can't find enough pics of it. Not sure what paint direction to go and thats whats hangin me up!

Thanks!

the motor mount bolts and dampers( thats what Kawasaki calls the isolaters) should be available from anyone who sells oem Kaw parts. I found the part numbers on Bike Bandit's web site. If your motor is a high performance build and/or its going to see dragstrip use, the standard operating procedure is to fab a set of sleeves from 6061 aluminum to replace the dampers and upgrade to larger diameter grade 8 bolts and nuts.

Thank you for the heads up edd on the mounts and dampers. This bike will probably see a few days a year at the dragway, but thats it. It's going to be a street rider with a 1075 kit. Do you think that would require anything besides stock dampers and motor mounts? Any pictures or examples of the aluminum sleeves you were talking about?

Also, does anyone have any pictures of the color schemes I had mentioned before? I could only find one or two pics with a silver/gray frame with black motor. I'm just trying to decide on my final paint scheme. Still not sold on a color! It'll either be like a gun metal gray or black frame, just don't know yet.... thanks!

Thank you Gringo! I think the silver frame breaks up the colors a little bit, I like that it's different than the black. If anyone has any other examples just for comparison that would be fantastic and greatly appreciated!

Well another big problem here. In tightening the cam journal cap bolts the bolts pulled out the aluminum threads. So I used heli-coils on them, and it seemed everytime i replaced one, a different bolt would then strip the threads. Finally, on the 7th one, my luck ran out and the hole was not perfectly straight, and i messed it up. The helicoil somehow went down too far also, i couldnt get it out, now its a complete mess and off center. Now the hole is too large for anything, and the inside of the hole is all mashed up. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? Anyone experienced similar problems with these threads? I was making excellent progress, now it looks like this may send me right back to square one. :( Very crappy time

it can be welded(have to pull the head)or you might be able to use a time sert.
www.wttool.com/product-exec/product_id/2...pair_Kits_Time_Sert_
you can always drill and tap it out as large as possible and and run a bolt in and cut it off then drill and tap the bolt (perfectly on center)and create your own insert.

Thank you for the tip! i did a little searching and found a local metric store. I got a "big-sert". its like a "time-sert" except its for my scenario. Its a larger timesert to make up the difference if you already had a timesert or helicoil that failed. so im about two sizes too big, but this will close the gap and allow me to use the original m6x1 bolt. It will arrive tomorrow, lets hope it works!
