1100 forks are longer....im using the 93 1100 . As the rear goes I don't like them...2-3 longer.
All balls bearing has a bearing kit for a direct swap or you can swap stems.

Thanks 750 R1!
It's more for looks...but handling as well. With modern brakes, tires, and suspension I would imagine all these aspects would improve.

After some more research, I've come across the GSX Katana as a good option to use for a front and rear swap as well. And one can find these fairly cheap pretty much everywhere.

FYI. It seems you cant anodise float bowls or carb tops!! I suppose its because theres too much other stuff in them other than aluminium.
However. The result you get from 'trying' to anodise them is quite interesting. So, Ive done that and put some clear coat on them. (pictures to follow). They look pretty good.
Other than that, I sanded back the tank and plastics and gave them a coat of spray putty. I clear coated the side panel things that I made and I resprayed the rearsets (they were already a mess). Ill clearcoat them tomorrow.
I also ordered a set of 140 jets, should come next week. As should the speedo cable.
A box of K&Ns arrived yesterday, which was nice and another GSXR600 swingarm turned up today.
So that gives me a lot to play with over the coming week.
Onward and upward.

Is the 81 GPZ swing arm a direct bolt on? I believe I have the correct rear master and caliper on the way. Welding that tab is no real big deal to mount the master.
I think most 550 swingarms should swap. But there is a small chance that the early ones may have used grease fittings for the swingarm bearings. I can't rule out that the bearings could be different then. The gpz did not have a grease fitting. You may want to check your swingarm... or check part numbers for the swingarm bearings on Partzilla.

I had very little success getting an 81 gpz550 (D1) rear master that was not pitted. If you are going to fab a mount, I would just go ahead and convert it fully to a Ninza 250 master, as described in that link I posted. That way you can fab it so it won't need spacers etc, and you will be able to get rebuild kits in the future (rebuild kits never existed for the 81 gpz master that I could find). The Ninja master (ha) feels perfect for the 550. It's the same diameter piston etc.

You may need a brake lever since the drum brake pedal wll likely have different mechanical connections than the gpz pedal. The gpz pedal might be a different length since the gpz used footpegs that were set further back. I'm not even sure if the pivot point is in the same place on the two frames, but I think they are.

Another minor thing is the sprockets are different between the two bikes, so you may need a slightly different length chain unless there is enough room on the adjuster, or you can swap sprockets. The gpz is 38/16. 40/17 may give virtually the same ratio. (The internal gears are all the same.)

Z1r, Yes,theyre CV carbs . BS34s,I think. From what Ive been told, upping the main jets to 140 and maybe a washer on the needle should be enough to get the bike running,.Thats all Im looking for to start with. Im sure there are going to be lots of things to sort out after the initial shakedown, then maybe Ill look into a Dynojet kit.

Rstnick, I have to check the clearance twixt wheel and undertray and the travel of the shocks that I have (theyre on the lowest setting already),Ill do that this weekend. It might be a possability but Im going to have a go with the replacement swingarm and see how much clearance I can gain from ginding the edge out of it . ( Ill take some photos)

Leon, Youre talking about major surgery there!!! No idea how that would work and with this frame,I wouldnt waste the money. I would rather strip everything out of the bike, put it all into storage until I can save the money for a Harris,Spondon or Bakker frame.

Thanks all,for the suggestions anyway. Keep em coming.

Exactly (See www.powersportswarehouse.com/p/Kawasaki#...00-A1-1984/080199E-6 ) . Have you looked inside the swingarm yet to see what's in there? Ed

hello Gents!

I've searched the site to see if I can find what bearings I will need to replace the sleeve-type swingarm pivot on my KZ 700. Unfortunately, most information I find is in the form of links to other sites which are either dead or for different sized bikes, such as the 900 or 1000. The only bearing kits I have found are for the larger bikes.

So... 2 questions.

1) Are any other KZ swingarms the same dimensions as the KZ700?

2) Will the 900 bearing kit fit on the 700/750s?

For me winter prep. is put the liner back in my jacket and get the heavy glove's out of the drawer.
With the temp. swings here in the winter I might go two maybe three days that are to cold to ride then it's back warm enough to ride.
Our forecast this weekend is a low Friday morning of 29 with a high of upper 30's/low 40's
then be in the 60's on Sunday.

What made you abandon the rear shock setup, and what shock are you using currently?

There are several reasons.
One is that I found a lighter and nicer GSXR1000 swinger in my stash which I felt the bracing maybe wasn't suitable or strong enough to take a cantilever mount so I went with the Suzuki rocker arm and dogbones and another is that the top mount wanted to occupy the same space as the fuel tank baffle box.
The shock was a bandit 600 with an R1 spring but I have since fitted a custom Hagon shock to my spec as the bandit one was a little harsh.
The blue springed Buell cantilever shock and Srad arm hasn't been abandoned though and will find it's way on to my next Zed build. :-)
