You could remove the rear wheel and shocks and see if the swing arm bushings are shot. That'd be my bet.

I'd go with dtturnz picture. I had bushings in my swingarm that WOULD NOT come out last year. I tried heat, the wax trick, everything, multiple times. All that would happen was the metal lip of the bushing, inside the swingarm, would chip off. Finnaly I took a hack saw blade off the tool, threaded it through the swingarm, reattached the blade and cut north, south, east, west flutes or grooves into the bushings, close but not quite through the material. I removed the blade, inserted a long punch and with a few whacks, the bushings came out like nothing. I think that the cutting weakened or relieved the bushing pressure enough to break the bond.

Put bike on centerstand. Pull on forks. Can you feel any play or slop in steering head? Turn handle bars. Do you feel anything different between turning left or right? Grab front wheel wiggle it. Does it move at all? Have buddy push down on front of bike. Wiggle swingarm. Does it move side to side at all? Wiggle rear wheel. Does it move at all? There should be no wiggle or side to side play in wheel or swingarm bearings or bushings. Bearings are not expensive, as long as you don't get them from a bike shop. All bearing have no# on them and can be got from industrial bearing suppliers. If bike has any sort of mileage or history of poor maintenance (PO of course) then think about all new bearings.

I dont think that lifting that way bent the frame unless you ratcheted the strap a little too tight.
I have two 650 swingarms, and one with bearings installed. If you need them your welcome to um just pay for shipping. :)
Are you shure the frame is level? put a level on the top of frame.
In the first pic the backbone is not inline with the two holes in the rear of the frame for the fender mount. That can be due to not being inline with the frame when taking the pic.
Hope it is not bent:(

Well, i just put the two swingarms I have here together, back to back end to end and stacked.

all the points match up together, ends when back to back are identical.

I cant mount my spare set because the previous ownere of that bike didnt ever take the swingarm off and grease the bearings, so they are frozen solid and rusted in place (along with Egg shaped innards) so I am S-O-L on a spare swingarm.
with the wheel off and the swingarm removed, the frame looks (to the eye) square as heck. I couldnt have the spacers flip flopped as they only go into the wheel one way.
maybe its just my eyes and comprehention is warped? But then again a few of yours would be warped also.

atleast i'm not alone in my insanity.

Anything is possible, but, in my opinion, I think the left arm of the swingarm is lower than the right (but the photo is deceiving because the whole bike may be leaning right slightly). This causes the top of the wheel to tilt toward the left shock. But look at the wheel adjusters. The tire is almost centered between them.

This is the most common fault I found on the few swingarms I've straightened. But there are other things that can cause this too. It can be the main frame as well. It's hard to say until you take everything apart and throw it onto a layout table.

Post edited by: loudhvx, at: 2006/03/06 01:47

Look at the chain relative to the engine and wheel. The spacing is definatly off.
