The 1987 KZ1000P frame is probably twice the weight of the 1979 GS1000 frame! Thicker-wall tubing, and lots more of it.

One reason modern sport bikes have aluminum perimeter frames is that aluminum doesn't flex like steel does. Think of it like this: How many aluminum springs have you ever seen? How many steel springs? It's a good thing aluminum weighs so much less, because it's not as strong as steel, much more of it has to be used to build a strong frame.

Like Leon said, the modern bits will help the handling a great deal, but why switch to those bits if you're just going to go in a short, straight line? Harleys are good that straight line thing...

And you probably know already, but I'll go ahead and spell it out: "Stuffing" a corner means passing someone on the inside, following a tighter line. They'd like to follow a certain line, but they learn at the last moment that the spot they'd like to occupy has been stuffed full of another rider.

Mladin stuffs Hayden

Rossi stuffs Gibernau

Ill agree with 99% of what you just said its just the way its stated.
A piece of aluminum in the same diameter/wall thickness/shape will bend just as much if not more than a similar piece of mild steel.
The aluminum frames/swingarms get their strength from being made from a boxed or rectangular piece of material versus being just round tubing.
That's what makes the frame braces I make really strong/light is that they are straight/flat in 2 differant planes to keep them from twisting from front-back and also side-side B)

Theres nothing wrong with the gs1100e swingarms, its mostly a matter of how much work you want to do on a swingarm swap.
Some people like doing the mono shock swap,i personally thought a monoshock would cool on a kz 30 years ago the first time I saw a Yamaha fzr600 with one.
now 30 plus years later Ive seen enough butchered up mono shock conversions to last me a lifetime,Ive seen a few really nicely done ones but way more hack jobs.
Anyway much like the original style paint jobs I hated 30 plus years ago which Im really starting to like again,I think these bikes just look right with dual rear shocks on them.
This has been a public service message for what its worth! :woohoo:

4TheKZ1000, I like the look of that swing arm. How did that ?

ramtough_63, I looks for a pretty much simple what. What swap would you recommend that is not 25 years old and would be a lot cooler ?

I dont think that the GS swing arm is going to work, it appears to be shorter than the swing arm that I currently have.

That suzuki gs rear wheel seems to me can be spaced for sprocket alighnment
by milling a small amount off the hub face, where the sprocket goes against it.

Then make a spacer for between the hub and the swing arm.

A brake disc can easily be bolted to the right hand side of the hub,
once the spacer for it and the gap between the hub and arm.

That way I can choose the size of the disc, plus use any caliper I want.

I can't see how it couldn't happen, just make the center bolt, space it,
bolt it in.

And it better not lock up when I tighten it!~ The front looks the same

but you have to fill in the space between the hub and the forks on each side.

Alot of space there, have to be cretive how you want to finish the hub surface
on the side, make exotic spacers that give your wheel a look it should have.

Well I wannna ride too so it's back wheel, front wheel.

Basically it comes down to when I take off my back wheel,
the second I lift it off the ground if it's heavy It's not going back on.

I want something that wants to spin not stand still.

I believe a stock arm is 19 1/2" from center of pivot bolt to axle in center of axle slot. The GS is either 1 1/2" or 2" longer...

if I remember correctly pretty much a direct swap, with a thin washer on each side at the pivot shaft.(the gs was slightly narrower than the kz). Also the gs has eye to clevis shock instead of eye to eye, look for shocks that meet your ride height standards.
