So the following morning I unload the 750 and give her a good once over. Well, as I hoped, she was all there but in need of some TLC, but not so bad as to warrant a nut and bolt tear down...pshhh, sure. I cannot see any tampering as far as modifications, which these poor girls suffered by the hands of the uncaring. By my assessment, Im thinking, rebuild all the obvious systems...brakes calipers, master cylinders, forks, chain and possible sprockets, tires, seat upholstery, and slight upgrading as we did back in the day. Definitely needs a Kerker, maybe jet kit or Keihin CR carbs, Dyna ignition, swingarm /calfab, rear shocks..Ohlins maybe. Anywho, I needed to finish up my 89 GSXR1100 I was building and then Id jump on her... I know, booo hisss. But I loved the 80s! The only issue I saw was, I think she probably lived somewhere near the coast as there was corrosion on alot of things, not deep rust through type, but corrosion that could lead to a full frame off restoring...well see. Need to crack the carbs to check them, get a battery and see if she starts...fingers crossed!

Bit light on photos sorry as I got on a roll and forgot all about it. Forks back together with new oil. Bonus was the forks had been kitted with Racetech gold valves and springs by the PO. Swingarm is back together with new bearings. Even got the engine cleaned, sanded, and couple of coats of etch on it. Next step is to get the engine paint finished and fit motor to frame......

I ordered those. They will be OE like, I thought about something "cool" but it's going to my first time building wheel, decided to stay close to OE as possible

Spent 4+ hours blasting, there is some more, but for what I need now I am pretty much done (almost done with center stand, it's still in a cabinet).
Swingarm was a bitch. I had good bearings inside, I masked it carefully, but forgot about grease hole (nipple removed). And yeah, media got inside. Now I need to figure out how I clean it or just junk it and get new bearings.

Thanks Scirocco, I did see that post. I will reach out. That post does not show the wheel mounted with the spacers like I am trying to find. Also I am using a KZ ltd caliper and that GS1100E brake stay will not work with my KZ 1000 LTD caliper mount. I do appreciate the help.
You'll have to make up spacers to make the swingarm fit, I have one on my GPZ ans used some stock spacers and have to make the rest., I'm making a custom brake stay.....

I am looking for a rear shot picture of a GS1100E swingarm on a KZ1000 with preferably a stock KZ wheel. I am trying to get all the spacers lined up properly. There are a ton of pictures on here .. the majority are all from the side. After powder coating the arm and chroming the spacers including a few extra just trying to get this right. Ideally a 78 KZ1000 ltd with the caliper to match. I have a 16 inch mag wheel. Thanks in advance. Joe

Picked up a 76 KZ400 S2 just yesterday. My first motorcycle in about 6 years and my very first Kawasaki.
In a previous life, I lived in the UK and rode a Suzuki Bandit 600 pretty much every day. Events have brought me to New England in the US and I've found myself itching to get back into bikes.
I learned a tonne tinkering around on the bandit but I always wanted to delve deeper into the engine and I've wanted to take on a restoration project for a very long time.
This bike is definitely going to be a project. First things first I need to check the fundamentals and figure out if the engine will run. If that works then both wheels have significant rust damage and need replaced. It definitely needs new forks and possibly a new swingarm. It's gonna be fun!
The previous owner said it had been sitting in a barn for the past twenty years. He couldn't find the key but he did have the original title from 1976/77 which I found pretty amusing.
I enjoy restoring vintage tools and putting them back to work so I will be chuffed if I can get this thing back in working order.
I love finding these communities and delving into all the collective knowledge and experience. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute a little something here and there too!

If you are just looking to tinker, I suggest working to advance the maintenance on your current bikes. Things like tearing down the brake system and cleaning out the sludge, then rebuilding with fresh seals and brake lines. Same for the carbs; teardown and replace all the O-rings and gaskets. Adjust valves. Grease swingarm bearings and steering head bearings. Tons of stuff to do on old bikes like our KZ's. Of course, that 750 K2 would be a nice add. I'd buy it for the price if the cosmetics are good. Fixing mechanical stuff it typically the easy part. It's making the bike look decent that's the challenge.
