My zr7 has a mono shock. If Kawasaki had made that bike with a 1000 air cooled instead of the 750 air cooled it would have been the perfect bike. It’s frame is as stout as my ZRX1200. With the 750 there’s no overloading of the frame from a power perspective and with my fork modification it handles nice enough for anything I can throw at it, which isn’t much, LOL.

Still in the works of the overall plan. Getting the carbs and the engine done is first. And that will take a while so I was asking about the front end so I can start working on that conversion while waiting on other parts. I only asked about the rear cuz someone mentioned it and it brought the thought to mind. If the rear end doesn’t get converted to mono shock I still plan to stretch the rear significantly but that’s a long way off and is just thoughts for now. You won’t be able to tell it was a KZP when it’s done 

I'd get it running first. I installed a 98 KZP swing arm on my Z1because it is 1 1/2" longer than the stock one and is stronger. It made the bike more stable at a ton but my turning radius is much larger too.   I also had to extend my fender.  It gets to a point it will be like riding on a log as the early Honda 750's use to be. Going through the tight turns in Malibu canyon I'd make the turn and see the Honda in my mirrors trying to keep up. It looked like he was riding on a log.   My point is for every mod there is a change elsewhere as well.

The top shock mount had to 100mm long to clear everything and position the shock correctly, I decided I didn't like that amount of torsional stress right under my nuts so added the centre strut to transmit that force into the backbone. The J & K are stiffer in the steering dept than the older bikes so should be all good

Time to get the tyre leavers and vasaline out 

Can anyone confirm that the stem in the triple clamps is the same size for all the kz1000 frames?
