KZ1000 instruments - how to separate ?

Hi all,
I want to clean and re-paint the black bottom portion, and clean and Back-To-Black the center rubber 3-layer gasket.
But they don't seem to come apart easily after the screws are removed. It moves a couple of millimeters but I'm not sure what is the right way to separate these, and the Manual does not really help.
Hints please ?

Is it one of those deals where I'd have to pry the outer ring open with some long screwdriver like this ?
If so, I'll probably pass, and just clean the outside carefully...

The two parts shoud separate easy ,maybe dirt or rust holds them togheter.
The black metal housing stays with the glass and the white molded bracket
you will need to remove the chrome ring to take them apart.

if the meter damper is shot, someone used a windshield wiper blade as a substitute. since replacements are either NLA or hard to come by. I don't know specifically what wiper rubber was used. the topic had good pics like yours.

They are all crimped from the factory, you can buy rings for them but it takes a lot of skill to re-crimp without destroying the chrome ring.
You can easily mask the top of the gauge right to the painted "cup" then sand and repaint the cup pretty easily.
Those look to be LTD or CSR type gauges, they are different from the rest of the KZ gauges.
