Here are a bunch of pictures from past ebay auctions. Most of these are from different bikes, but one or two might be the same bike. They aren't great, but I don't see a rubber bumper in any of the pictures I've been able to find of OE shocks.

Thanks DOHC ..... I will say they could not have all had the bumpers fall off. I will go with the no bumpers on the 80 redo. For feference, 80 and 78 shocks look the same...78 has dual springs and the bumper.....see pics

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Photos below are my '80 LTD that I was working on in 2015. The first photo shows the shock on the RHS. Looks the same as the Z1R to me. I believe the shock was original to the bike. If you look closely you might see the bumper near the top.
I took the second photo this afternoon. It clearly shows the bumper.

I believe the LTDs came with Mulholland branded shocks. In any case, yours have an aluminum disc at the top of the spring. The Z1R has a solid black top.

This is a fun game. I enjoy pouring over reference materials. Here is something I noticed. My FSM for the Late-78 (A2A) to 80 (A4,D3) Kz1000 has a supplement for the 1979 A3 and another for the 1980 A4 and D3. The A3 supplement shows a different rear spring rate chart (vs. the A2A). The 1980 supplement does not give any data about the rear shocks at all. Assuming this wasn't an omission, it suggests that the A3, A4, and D3 all shared the same rear spring specs (both rate and preload).
I have a later printing of the manual (-05 vs. -03). The '80 A4 & D3 supplement is the same in both. So if it is an omission, they didn't catch it.
