1980 Z1R rear shock restoration question

03 Apr 2020 09:23
#822536
I am doing a cosmetic restoration on 2 pair of 1978 Z1R and 1 pair of 1980 Z1R rear shocks. The 78 's all have a rubber bumper on the top of the shock rod so it does not bottom out at full compression, but the 1980's did not have the bumper. Did the 1980's come with that bumper? If they did what is a source for the correct looking ones?

I would try to look on the Automotiv sector. There are a lot cheap stop rubber bumper avaliable you can use with some modifications, (for example VW Beatle).

Bump stops are 9.90 mm I.D. since the shock shafts are 10 mm O.D. on 78's and 80's

I would like to find bumpers that look original......but the important question is did they even put them on the 1980 models?

I think that's exactly what he's asking for. Someone else with a 1980 Z1R with original shocks to take some pictures.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHere is a sold item that might be from a D3. These also have no bump stop.

Thanks DOHC....I contacted seller ( numbnuts603 ) even though they were sold to ask about bumpers. They looked restored due to color/ finishes.
