We soldered galvanized sheet metal in middle school(6th grade) shop class. We made funnels, watering cans, dust pans and bins, buckets, decorative windmills, and assorted animal shapes. If you want a real thin seam that's also strong, soldering is the way to go. Ditto if you want the thing to hold water or hot grease.

This was a tad over 40 years ago and I'd forgotten the alloy, hence my question further up the thread. Lousiana had some fine schools. Great shop classes, le cheval for lunch, and a 12 year old could work in the kitchen rinsing dishes with 180 degree water and operating the garbage disposal and dishwasher in exchange for a free lunch. Kids get no hands on experience these days.
