So I've got the speedmoto vm30 kit and it runs fairly well, as in when im on the road its running great and feels like my main jet is spot on, but when it comes to giving it throttle off a stop it starts to stutter and if I roll on throttle to fast itll die. There is also an excessive amount of smoke coming out my exhaust so I am thinking my pilot jet circuit is running to rich. I currently have a 25 pilot jet. Should I try downsizing to 22.5? and if so where should I purchase a smaller jet, I cant seem to find a 22.5 for the vm30.
I should probably give more context. Its an 82 kz440 with everything engine related still stock except for the carbs of course. I was concerned the smoking was from rust so i soaked the tank with some evaporust and it looks spotless so fingers crossed the smoking is just from it being too rich.

Have you tried messing with the needle height? Also, I would highly recommend a colortune kit. It really takes the guessing out of tuning that pilot circuit

If its a Genuine Mikuni VM30 then you would want a VM22/210 Pilot style jet. Just google VM22/210-22.5 and You'll find a fit or whatever size you're playing with -20, -17.5 ??

Some more crap to boggle the mind. Don't know how the 30's were set-up as received?? But not these were also used on two-strokes, completely different dynamics! Do You have a Primary or bleed type jet holder or a primary style?? You might have a 159 series or 176 series? Slide cut generally is out of box 2.5. Generally the "choke", not to be confused with the enrichment system starting plunger. Is that protrusion from the jet holder/emulsion tube in the venturi. If it sits proud looking down the throat then it's most likely a Primary style and suited for two-stroke application. Look at the photos, first two. Last pic is of various immediate grabbable crap i had laying around, there are many many more.

Speed Moto Co indicates they have the sizes you are seeking.
    speedmotoco.com/mikuni-pilot-jet-vm22-21...n-order-size-needed/

Jets R Us allows appears to have them
    www.jetsrus.com/a_jets_by_carburetor_typ...i_VM22-210_pilot.htm

I am willing to bet there are many others locations that also will have them

If it helps visit Cafe Racer.net. Although slated for a CB350 application, everything else pertains.
