I am in search of correct carb holders for an early (1974) KZ400.   The correct part number per this forum and my research is 16065-037. The carb side ID should be approximately 41-42mm. Most suppliers specify 37mm for the ID. I found a supplier that specified 41mm but when the holders arrived they were 37mm. Too small for ~41mm OD Keihin carbs. All the aftermarket 16065-037 holders are probably from the same Chinese factory. Has anyone found an aftermarket source that has the correct Kawasaki 16065-037 specifications?

According to the parts fishe on Partzilla.com, the 16065-037 boots fit KZ400's from '74-'78.  No doubt, those are the 37mm version boots.  Kawasaki.com parts info also states 16065-037.

I wonder if some previous owner installed 750 twin carbs on your bike?  Can you post some photos?  Measure the ID of the outlet side of the carbs, near the throttle butterfly?

And FWIW, Z1 Enterprise sells some generic boots at 40mm ID.  You may be able to make those work, although if your bike has 750 carbs, I'd look for a proper set.

Yes I am questioning if the carbs were changed in the past. All images that I have seen of the Keihin CVB36 match the carbs that I have. My carbs are stamped with 746D. I have not cross referenced that to a carb model number yet. I attached a holder drawing found on a discussion from several years back. The dimensions listed for part # 16065-037 would fit the carburetors on my KZ.  The caliper measurements in the attached photos closely match the drawing measurements of the…-037 holder.   Stumped at this point.

You might want to check out the folks at JBM to see if they have what you want/need.

You could also check the Mikuni catalog that Sudco puts out, lots of carb holders listed. The size your showing is equivalent to what fits a GPZ1100 or VM33 smooth bore (the ID not the bolt hole centers)

The ID stamp 746D to the best of my knowledge indicates a set of CVB36 carbs.

Thank you, I did already buy another set of the 65065-037. With some lubrication i was able to install the carbs and it runs well. I appreciate everyone’s suggestions.

Where did you buy them from?
I've bought 3 different set from eBay that claim to be 16065-037, but all 3 have the measurements of a 16065-048.

Heat them and lube with lithium grease.
