And the cases are too shiny (polished)

Yep.  Those stick out like a sore thumb to us.  It is 'pretty',.but looks like bling for bling's sake.  Seems to be a common mistake, and many viewers who don't know OEM finish are distracted by the shiny baubles (Ooohhh... pretty!) .  It looks good on a custom, but not a resto that's supposed to be correct at premium cost.

It's surprisingly difficult & time consuming to achieve the fine-grain brushed semi-shine (fine linishing) finish of OEM Z1 aluminum parts vs the mirror finish of an over-restored, mirror polished finish.  The good news is, the person doing the polishing has completed the task of removing corrosion and discoloration otherwise done with increasingly finer wet/dry abrasive paper when working toward a linished OEM finish. When a mirror finish is already present, the correct finish can still be recreated.

Moving on, at that price, we'd like to see photo proof of all date codes on that bike of every component (torque link, switchgear, shocks, disk, etc., etc., etc)  on which date codes are clearly documented in John Brooke's excellent handbooks and elsewhere.

[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[  I think the one that went for $51,000 in Vegas last year set unjustifiable expectations. This one looks better than that one as it had a number of repop parts, didn't it? IIRC, even the exhaust was a repop. The complete restoration will be finished by the seller before it's shipped. Not sure my wife would believe this though: "TELL YOUR WIFE THAT THESE VERY RARE BIKES WILL ONLY APPRECIATE IN VALUE 10-15% PER YEAR." ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

The Vegas bike was very nice, I was there, the reproduction parts are very nice, the bidders wanted a nice bike.
$51k shot way past recent sales, more z1's listed for next auction, we'll see what happens.

1st time I looked, As Greg (Hi Greg) listed, how about the other obvious! Paint left on the cylinder fins. No Paint in the DOHC on the dyno cover.
He's trying though! He knows his bottom line. If he gets a real offer.

Yes Mecum Vegas already has their consignment list up. The star is an incredible 74 Z2 750 RS all documented. And all literature is printed in Japanese
There is a double engine Z1 street bike, And a 75 looking stock, Pro-Street style bike like I build. Stretched and raked with a sidewinder. Pretty cool!
Dont know if the link works?? I have not been able to post links anymore, probably a host server expense?
Easily searched though!

That's the one I'm watching as well!
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Just guessing? Many of you: a) spent a bunch of time wrenching on these bikes as youngsters and took copious notes along the way (memories and / or literally took them) or b) love the art of research. Regardless, the purists detail is impressive.
