"J" clutch cover question was created by Wookie58
Hi all, is it possible to remove the "sight glass" for blasting and polishing and if so "how" please. I rather hear from someone who has done it than experiment

They just push in and out like a seal.
Pot luck how easy they come out and whether it remains reusable but i've had 99% success with them.
Push through the slot from behind with something that won't mark the glass such as wood or plastic.
Immersing the cover in hot water may help loosen its grip.

If needed such as if the seal is bad or not very tight, you could get a replacement sight glass with new seal. I've seen the part listed at various places. Partzilla has a photo w price and it was used on a lot of models, including a number of current models, so it should be readily available.

ps:  z1enterprises svcks. maybe the change there was inevitable, but still.  everybody calls that part a sight glass. Kawasaki lists it as an oil level gauge.  z1 lists it as a "window", so you have to hunt for the darn thing.

Always nice to have a plan "B" if it ends up being the 1% that didn't go to plan

Just replaced the oil sight glass in a used clutch cover I had.  Used the old tip for installing bearing races -  put the sight glass in the freezer for a couple hours, made it easier to push the sight glass into position from the outer side of the cover.

Easy to do Wookie!! I do it all the time on the earlier thru 1980 covers but the sight glass is different and came in different styles of backer metal plate. Have a few genuine ones but You live sooo far away, ha.

Thanks Clay, if req Z-Power do an OE replacement for £25 (would probably cost that to ship from where you are) if I'm lucky (and careful) I should be able to re-use what I have
