Hey Snakebyte... The Gpz has cooling fins that are less round, more sharp on the edges...but the pic is not a close-up so it is difficult to tell 4 sure. I would ask the seller to send you a closer pic from the top looking down. This will give you a better idea. My guess is the motor is an '81-83 Kz750 that was reasonably well taken care of judgin from the detailling and clean paint.

Snakebyte:

Colin is correct...that is not a 1982 GPz750 motor. I have a 1982 GPz750, went to the garage to look at it a few minutes ago and the fin edges are more angular as they transition from the front to side to rear of the head. The engine VIN numbers will be uninformative as the early 750's all used the KZ750E series motors (including the 1983 ZX750).

I would say it's not a GPz also.
Here's a link to some detail pics of an '83 I found Googling around....

Hope these help out. Looks like two cylinders were running rich and two were running lean.
From what you guys are saying I guess I'm still looking for a GPZ engine:(

If you don't find a GPz engine, you can still build a screamer out of a 750, and the it probably won't cost you as much to start with as a GPz engine.

That motor looks identical to mine with only two exceptions - you got the smog/ emmissions stuff on the cam cover. We never got that stuff up here. And your cam chain tensioner is a bit more modern than the one mine came with so it's probably later than 80
