It would have two gaping holes in the front for the oil cooler if it was a gpz, wouldn't it?.

The 81 550 gpz has the rounded fins and cover. In 82 they went to angular.

Hey guys, dont think that the GPZ had a mechanical rev counter and I can see the drive ib the front of the head, maybe its a gpz with a 650 head? Does the sump have the connections for the oil cooler? All the gpz750s had an oil cooler standard and an electronic rev counter.

I agree Dave, I can see the tach drive just above the #3 exhaust port. GPzs had an electronic tach.

Do you guys think that this will be a good buy? I really want a gpz, but cant seem to find one without problems. What is the differece between gpz and z 750's. I know that the cams, oil sump, tack drive, cooling fins, are different now. But whats the real difference, desighn of the head, transmission, gear ratios, Bacicaly what I'm trying to ask here is it easier to sqeeze hp from the gpz or is it about the same for both engines?

gpzs tend to have a better head,but you need pistons to match. goodluck,happy wrenching

I have a KZ750E head and a 83-85 GPz750 head, and the only difference I can see is that the 750E head has a tach drive. The GPz has higher compression (different pistons) along with different cams (83-85 anyway). The 83-85 GPz750 has the clutch cable attached to a lever on the right side while the 750E clutch cable goes to the sprocket cover on the left side. 83-85 GPz750 motor is all black except for the ignition and alternator covers that say "GPz" on them. I don't have anything earlier than an 83 GPz750 motor, so I don't know about the earlier ones.

Hi I have a 1982 Gpz 750 engine complete Has new seals,valve springs ,gaskets, and head clean up.Each cylinder has 175 psi. Motor has only 22 000 miles on it. I also have a nice complete gpz 750 bottom end. I am in Canada but only 2 hours north of Detroit. Not too far from Ohio. These motors are hard to find now. Engine had $500 worth of work done to it. I'd make fair package deal on motor and spare parts+ 519 570 9669 Ralph

What a difference. Are these just a straight bolt in? Except for the clutch cable. Will my exsisting exhaust hook up?

Have to make some spacers for the top front mounting bolt, use GPz750 throttle and clutch cables, have an offset sprocket made, and grind a little off the sprocket cover so it will clear the frame. KZ650 exhaust bolts right on. You also have to wire in the GPz750 ignitor (cut the plug off a GPz750 wiring harness) and the GPz750 reg/rec. The gas tank on a 79 KZ650SR hits the top of the cam cover, so we had to space up the rear of the tank a little, I don't know if that applies to the other 650 models as the SR is the only one I have done.
