Consider soda blasting?  It dissolves in hot water.

Let the part soak in very hot water for 1/2 hour or so.  If the water is agitated it speeds dissolving of the soda particles.  Rinse very thoroughly with directed water stream, like a hose nozzle on jet setting.  Repeat.

The paint is mostly off, I'm making plywood blanks now. I tape over the critical surfaces and then put the blank on. I'm plugging all the threaded and other holes. I'll get photos of the parts when they are ready, it's tedious.

I’m blanking the upper case, last piece. Each piece is taped off to keep out glass beads and covered with the wood to protect the tape. Bolt holes have bolts in them. I’m hopeful this saves me a lot of cleanup. Internal passages are also plugged in case there is leakage.

When I had my stuff done I only blanked the cylinders and I used duct tape over them.  Otherwise I left everything open.  Immediately after blasting I used a water hose to thoroughly wash each piece and then compressed air to dry.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Looking good. Advice I've heard suggests putting the blasted parts in hot water and spraying all the passages with compressed air - I suppose you can't be too careful.

Yes, I must admit I’m maybe overly concerned but I will be dunking, blowing, checking with a flashlight in a dark room and anything else I can think of to assure myself there are no beads left in it.

I'm almost ready to paint the frame. In the mean time, I'm thinking about replacing the case bolts. The old ones are a bit beat up and at least 2 were missing.
I don't see any sets on line. There was one but the vendor represented stainless as NOS. 
Has anyone seen any sets from vendors I've missed?

I was real happy with these set for all the JIS cover screws. As for the case bolts I dressed up the heads of my original and had them replated. Sorry I can’t help with a set for the bolts. kaylinator gets credit for finding KMCarburetor

This guy is in Japan.  He has screw kits but not bolt kits.  He sells bolts though.  I've bought quite a few from him.  I highly recommend his products.

Frame is painted. Looking at other parts, found a stiff link in the cam chain, I will surely replace it as well as a few parts of the tensioner. Most were renewed in 2009 and don't have much miles. The support shafts are the modified type with small cutaways but I think one is not renewed.

Looking to get a rolling frame together. I’m finding tires difficult to find, one or the other vintage tire is out of stock most places.
I want rib front, block rear.
I put the restored choke plungers back in the carbs today, that should make a big difference next time it runs, the idle mixture screws made no difference. I had Robert Meggitt in the UK fix them, great looking work, prompt too.
I’m going to replate at least the 8mm case bolts, maybe most of the 6mm, I still need some new ones coming from Fastenal because some were missing.
