I like where you’re headed with that! What’s the plan for paint? It would look pretty rad with silver metallic on the frame, and clear coat only on the tank, methinks.

Cool build, and fantastic that your son is getting involved—people who know how to do stuff are going to be at a premium when he comes of age.
Is this thing working? Is this thing on?

Thanks so much.  That's a really good question.  I like that paint scheme you came up with!  My only issue is the tank will need some fiberglass work to be perfect.  I could perhaps find another tank but I honestly want to paint it.  My plan right now is to POR15 seal the hell out of the frame (gloss black)  For the tank, I was thinking like a baby blue with metallic flakes or that ugly vintage aqua green or a dull grey.  The seat and bar grips are black.

Thanks Buzz, nick and wheelhop!!   I appreciate the compliments.  I'm just a DIYer with hopes that my son can gain some life skills as well.  You're right about the future of our youth.  They will also need practical abilities..  The exhaust work is a PIA but so well worth it.  The bike idles nicely after the carb rebuild and sounds sick with the cone muffler.  I'll get some pictures up.

Really?? Or are you guys messing with me?  I know this is going to be a dirt ripper but the frame should get protected.  I feel if I go for the bare metal look the bike will lose value.  How would you finalize it?  Just clear coat everything as is?

I know POR15 makes all kinds of paints now but be aware their signature gloss black, rust preventative paint goes on shiny but will quickly fade when exposed to UV light. Might be better off with a two-part epoxy paint (Spraymax) on the frame.

Not messin’ with ya at all, you just posted a cool photo and we all got excited, haha. But yes, you would definitely want at least a clear coat on it to protect it. And I think black frame with blue tank would also look good.
