'78 rear duckbill removal

27 Mar 2019 09:49

I would like to remove the large rear duckbill that is on the back of my bike but I do not have a welder to do any frame modifications. Has anyone been able to remove this and use the stock seat without welding a seat ring or doing other welding modifications? If I have to I will take it somewhere and have it modded but I would like to do it myself if I can. Thanks.

Not sure which KZ model your referring to, should add your model to a signature line.
You can just unscrew the duckbill and remove it.
There will be large gap around the back end of the seat, but a 650D model seat on a 650B/C may work to fill in the gap.

The duckbill is a distinctive part to many KZs, and most are unwilling to let theirs go, and those without sometimes wish they had one.

I'm amazed. I seen plenty of times when folks were trying to ADD a duckbill to their KZ, but removing it? It's one of the things that makes a KZ look great. Oh well, I guess everyone is entitled to his opinion. Ed

Update -

My mistake; I take back my previous statement. I forgot about the 2 examples (shown below) where creative folks removed the duckbill when building their dream bikes. Ed

You will need structure behind your seat or you will have independent suspension on your swingarm....not good dime city cycles maybe for a hoop and cross member
