custom brackets to mount my Z1R fairing
14 Aug 2018 14:12
after getting the R1 front end mounted and some shakedown time,(and a discussion with an OHP about old bikes with modern suspension.i got caught tipping up out of a corner at 89 mph  )
i set some time aside (yeah right i just put everyone else's stuff off and used working on my own bike as therapy  )and made new brackets to get the Z1R fairing mounted.
i scribed out brackets (after making cardboard templates)on some 1/4 inch thick aluminum, cut them out with the port-a-band and filed and sanded them to the scribe lines.
i was able to use the fork clamps i had already made to hold my headlight brackets,to hold the new brackets that relocated the headlight and gave me a place to bolt the upper fairing mounts.
my old headlight mount had the key switch mount in it.so i made a new key switch mount that bolted to the bolts that hold my bar mounts on under the upper triple clamp. .
i still want to lower my headlight a quarter of an inch to get the headlight sitting exactly where i want it in the opening.
but i am very pleased with how it all worked out.

They look perfect. Now make sure to send yourself a hefty bill for the therapy and go spend that money on whatever ...

i used a beam across two rafters and an electric hoist to get them up.
i have since acquired a walk behind electric forklift.
so,
that will be how i get them down
