Luminous Blue was created by Grumpy Ole Artist
Hey all! I was wondering if anyone had a modern match to original Kaw Blue...Just took delivery of my re-pop sticker kit, and am hoping to get my "forever" paint on this year...650 Ed, have you ever had a side cover scan done at a paint shop?

he meant color scanned for mixing the same color not actually painting your bike

so maybe you could help him get the right color :)

Actually Ed can't help even if he wanted to, because his motorcycle is not Luminous Dark Blue. :) Maybe Ed will repaint in luminous dark blue in the future, but for now is content to keep the original 1977 C1 paint sceme, :P The luminous dark blue used on the 1978 B2 was not even close to the color of Ed's fantastic C1.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

RonKZ650 is correct. The name of the blue on the 1977 KZ650-C1 is Metallic Regal Blue.

I know the Hondas CB of the time were candy paint, gives a real depth. Metallic blues are nice, deep colour under glassy smooth clearcoat looks great. I'd just choose a colour as close as you can .

The paint mixing wasn't as precise as it is today and I've heard NOS panels in the same colour often don't match.

Last GPz firecracker red I did was was actually Ford cardinal red.

Grump,

I have not matched any KZ colors except for the 900 and 1000 models, but most Kawasaki colors are Candy colors. Scanning a Candy color will only get you a close metallic car color formula. A car color will never be a good match to a Candy color out in the sun.

Luminuous blue is not a candy. I sanded through an original to see when i had my 650b2 painted. The painter ended up using a subaru metallic blue.

RS Motor Bike Paint's website lists 78 KZ650 B2 Luminous Dark Blue as a 3 step (Base/color/clear) paint.

I would not use RS for a source for what is correct for the Kawasaki colors.......they list their 1972 H2 Blue as a single stage color and Kawasaki painted it in a 3 layer Candy. Old Lubri-Tech charts are a better reference for what is a Candy and what is not.
