So I thought this tank has a cheap flat black paint job that was old . Now I am not thinking that . I think this tank is already primed with no paint . I hit it with scruff paper and it went to metal in not 2 seconds .

No harm in scruffing up again and repriming. You know it will be primed that way for sure.

Okay so I really can't figure this out correctly. How on earth do you paint the outline around a pattern in a different color . Do I just clear coat and do the outline last?

Almost done with primer . Dont you hate when you get extremely tiny holes here and there . They are from when the PO of this tank bondoed it. Now Im trying to fill these dang things in .

Okay guys. Need some paint help . I was sure my primer was smooth as it could get so I sprayed down the black gloss paint . All was well until I turned the tank alittle to the light . Got some scratches on the right side of the tank where I guess it didnt smooth out . How do I fix this? Do I sand the paint down alittle and apply another coat? The sides will be covered with blue metalflake so Im not sure if it will cover it up or follow the scratches. I read that metalflake paint is rough and can cover scratches but as they say " you cant put anything on the internet that isnt true "

Here is my first fishnet paint job. The hardest part was finding fishnets big enough to get around the tank. I had to go to the "big girl" store at the mall and watch the clerk give me funny looks as I found the biggest pair they had. She didn't believe me when I said they were for a paint job (did I mention that I am 6'5" and 220lbs)? One of my more embarrassing moments, but the paint job was worth it.

Re: Opinions on my paint design

Hey all I have a question. My duplicolor base (black) enamel has been drying now for 5 days or so. I cant seem to find an answer online. I want to run detail tape around the tank in designs. Here is where Im stumped. I want to use the metalflake blue and another bluish greenish color as the designs . I want the black to be basically the lines seperating the designs.
1) I read you have to apply a layer of base paint and then apply the clear coat so it has something to tack to. Would I spray the clear over base coat and then spray the designs over that?
Or should I just spray the designs onto the bAse paint and clear the whole thing .
Both ways I would clear the whole thing i just need to know should I clear it before the metalflake spray paint ?
I thought about this too hard and confused myself. I need some clearification.
