First things First KzRider is the biggest source for Years of Hard Earned Knowledge for us first time wet behind the ears builders. Biggest gathering of F***ed Up Members who are so crazy inventive they border absolute genius, makes me feel at home here. All that being said have been stuck in a anal retentive rut. I've upgraded ignition to a dyna 2000 as well as new rectifier ,solenoid, fuse block, switches and relays. Wanted to get rid of the factory battery box cause can't fit all the new goodies in it without it looking like it was all just thrown on. So I finally stepped away from it and decided to settle the issue of side covers. And this is where I started. Comment on what you think and by the way it's Not Paint, it's something nobody has done before. Very rough, don't like the way it fits in the frame. But the shape is close, let me know what you think. Thank you to all

understandable.
i believe you will be just fine.
if you aren't happy with this set you can build some more.
i love to fab and machine everything i can.
i like my body work to be pretty slick and i don't want to spend the time and material to build my own.
so i admire folks who take the time and put in the effort to build there own body panels.
have you checked out the aluminum body work on zed1015's

I just purchased a bike for parts that someone had done the same thing to, however, they were welded in. How are yors attached? The frame was so cut up and modified that I tossed it out. I think that youre looks much better with the gap around the edges. It looks more like a cover than just a hunk of sheet metal.

I cut the factory mounts off and whiz wheeled it smooth then went back in with filler. Gonna weld flat stock in the corners and pop trendsetters for mounting. In the process of making t he last and final set now. Trick is getting it shaped to follow the curvature and then hopefully make another just like it. After all that paint or powder the frame. Then assemble for the very last time in theory.

i too am a fan of the side covers. I made two sets for my 1000, one for the airbox, and one for pods. I got a little anal over the side covers and spent well over 100 hours on making the plugs, molds, and final covers. i have yet to mount the final result. I don't think i would ever go down this road again. it was expensive, time consuming, and made a huge mess, but once i get an idea in my head i cant get it out until i try it. :woohoo: yours are looking good, just continue to refine them and theyll look great

I wish they were done... they have been painfully time consuming, i think im developing carpul tunnel from hand sanding so much. Im very close to finishing them, im just working out how they fasten to the frame. Heres a pic of the final vacuum bagged pieces cut and fitted.

I think those looks excellent, flows with the tail profile much better in my opinion! Not to mention the satisfaction you'll get from knowing that you created those, from scratch,
Please continue posting pictures of them as you finish and paint!
