KZ750 Tank... Modify or Replace? was created by NSpinicelli
I'm working on my first cafe racer, a 1976 KZ750 Twin. One of the most beautiful pieces on a cafe racer for me is the tank, which I am not a fan of when it comes to the OEM tank for this bike (picture #1). Could a metal worker modify/reshape the tank, or would it be better to replace it entirely in order to produce a tank similar to picture #2? Thoughts? Any referrals?

A good automotive bodyworker should be able to modify it as needed. One of the older tricks is to trace a "knee dent" on a piece of cardboard and cut it out. Position it exactly in the same spot on each side and cut the tank around the template. Take the left piece and right pieces and weld them on the opposite sides. (It's more in depth than that but I left out some finer details for simplicity). Because the tank is convex and you flip the pieces to the opposite side they become concave and form "knee dents".
Here is sorta what I'm talking about.

That's good to know, and also a great idea! I've never thought of doing that... Thanks for the response StreetFighterKZ!

everybody loves the Benelli tanks. i doubt dishing the tank will give you the look you want. if you like the Benelli tank find one one ebay. it will take some fabrication to make it fit. you could sell your tank to offset the cost.
