I read that article. and it sounds realistic for 3 yr old article.

the vinyl on vernells tow and their service box trucks is a little over 5 years old and still looks like new ( i know the guys who own vernells towing)all they have done is washed the trucks with dawn and water. thier trucks are exposed to the elements 24/7 365. so idk.

BTW: average temps during summer are highs in the 100's and winter lows in the teens

going with the information i was given by the company i went to and looking at several examples of thier work close up after its been on for years i like the workmanhip and look of the work.

LOL seems like a highly debated topic though, glad i started it.

Sounds cool but can you get one to last over 25 years like this paint job. The headlight and front fender were painted only 6 years ago. Look at the reflection in the tank, I don't think vinyl is that shinny from the start let alone 25 years latter.

true that is a nice paint job. but i dont have a garage to keep mine in so my paint wont look as fresh and if i wanna change my scheme every year i can and its cost effective
plus i dont really like the high gloss i want contrast shiny chrome and polished aluminum and a cool graphic that stands out not matter how sunny it is, when its bright out i want people to see my graphic not be blinded by it and cant see the details.

but thats my personal preference

i have done vinyl graphics for about 13 years untill i started in the body shop i am at now and still do some now and then. i am not comeing off as a know it all but i dont see taking a flate peice of vinyl and wraping it around a tank there is noway that i could pull it off and i dont see anyone else doing it either with out getting puckers - wrinkles - and god knows what else. and i am with everyone else on the gloss thing. i just finished a sportster yesterday and he wanted flames on ipaint is the only way to go and that is all there is to it..

awesome flame job, my thing is im indecisive and like to change things up and the vynal (i think) would be more cost effective to change. plus i do appreciate a good paintjob with shine but i think id prefer a low gloss

and if i do do paint i know its gonna be expensive cuz im a picky bastard and i know whats out there. lol

pic of jobs they did:

and yes they do have a shine ( not like a good clearcoat job) but enough to make it pop

I would think a clear coat would give it that Nascar shine

I change my mind all the time and I change up my paint. I have owned my bike for over 30 years and have collected some extra parts over the years.

Omce it is clearcoated is is essentially painted so it wont be a matter of ripping iff the vinyl and reapplying it. It will require the same treatment as a repaint would but you cannot buy the paint for what you can have it wrapped for.

my thoughts would be to have it wrapped and collect another body set in the next few years and have it wrapped or painted as the funds will allow The versatility of having something wrapped can allow you to get custom work done without spending 1500.00

when I painted my stuff I had the option of spending 300.00 to have the shop do it (solid color of choice. or me spend 300.00 on materials to do it I opted for doing it myself but I have painted before (20+ years ago)

not everyone has the option or funds for paint and with the versatillity and price of vinyl wrap I wouldnt hesitate to give it a try.

I cant wait to see it I bet it rocks!!
