I have a similar setup on my zx-10r. I think that it is technically not legal, but I have not had any problems in Texas with it. Including one traffic stop where he didn't write me up for the license plate. Your results may vary.

I really want to avoid trouble on this I hear the fines can be as great as 1k. There are some horror stories over at customfighters.com of people with vertical tags getting big$$ tickets. This is where I would like to mount it. I just wonder what the laws say.

Indiana doesn't recognize vertically mounted plates, they also require an unobstructed view from 50 feet. I got stopped for mine being at to much of an angle due to the stretch on my swinger so I made a horizontal mount for the axle

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationAfter reading up on this I noticed some states have a law with it being at the most rearend of the bike over the tallest part of the tire and Georgia has some laws about covers obstructing the view.
Just ordered a set of these to be compliant.

Interesting, I'm doing a swingarm right now and was wondering this same thing. I see where you can but ready made vertical mounting brackets. But was kind of leary on those. I guess if the cop wanted to be a prick he'd find a way to write you a ticket for it. Guess I'll have to check this out before I mount my plate.

Indiana takes pride in writing tickets for no license plate light and the vertical mounted plates. 3 out of 5 sportbikes seem to have them mounted like yours with little problem.

Ok, here is my final setup. Ebay tail light with integrated turn signals, ebay led lights for the tag (note they are not very bright ).This as legal as I can get it and keep the style. I have an 81 GPZ tail sitting on top of it temporarly. I am going to use it to make a custom tail.

Yes it is. I bought it when I was going with the duck tail and it fit that great but now I wish I had one that was more squared off to match the gpz tail.

Thanks guys. How legal do you think this will be? see any problems?
