Wondering if this is possible,,, was created by clutch
I have a 1982 kz 750 e3. My gas tank has the ugly, rectangular, key-required flip-up cap. Is there a way to swap this for a screw-on type, or at the very least, modify it so that the key is not required to open it? It's not THAT annoying for me, but I would love to change it, if it can be done

this is one way.
maybe more than you care to tackle.

being as how the key unlatches it you would have to remove the tumblers and install a lever to open the latch.
not sure if that is even possible.

LOL! If it involves cutting and/or welding the tank itself, then the mod would be out of my skill range. And that pic must be photoshopped! The tumbler-removal mod may be doable. I will see if I can find a cheap spare cap on ebay to tinker with

It is possible to simply remove the tumbler from the inner workings of the gas cap. My friend had a Z750 that was stolen. The gas cap lock was destroyed, and he had to replace the ignition switch. He didn't feel like fixing the gas cap lock, so he just removed the tumblers. He was able to open the gas cap with any type of skinny metal object.

I just thought of something. After you remove the tumblers, there is about a 1/3" space above the key slot where the tumblers used to be. You could probably weld a small key-sized peice of metal into that slot so that the cap could be operated without having to use any key or other object. Just a thought....
