Duplicolor caliper paint - used it?

I notice Duplicolor makes a paint for calipers. I looked carefully at the label for "resistant to brake fluid" but that phrase is not on it.... It does say "chemical resistant."

I have a hard time believing anything from a spray can will not be attacked by brake fluid.

Anyone tried it? I was thinking of using it on calipers and wheels also so they match.

Never used the Dupe caliper paint, but brake fluid will eat up 2 part clear coat. If it gets through that stuff then rattlecan paint doesn't stand a chance. I wonder how well that Gun Cote (sp?) would hold up on some calipers? Maybe you could send a pm to Otakar. He's the resident expert on that stuff.

Painted mine with primer/hi-fill then same enamel paint as bike....wet sanding and all, about 8 coats i remember. That was 20 years ago and am currently stripping this off to refinish 'em again. Only neglect by interim owner caused crazing/lifting.

Don't want to get into a debate over brake fluids...
But I'm glad I used dot 5 on my project,otherwise there'd be no paint left on it.:whistle:

Did I mention how I hate bleeding brakes?

Anytime I totally rebuild the caliper and master cylinders, I refill with dot 5. Primarily because for the paint stripper feature of dot 3 fluid.

I do flush the dot 5 fairly frequently - every year or two.

...probs best to just not get brake fluid everywhere! I use clear (1/4"?) hose ziptied to nipple then into a bottle of clean brake fluid for trouble free bleeding. I used generic auto paint,properly dry between coats, not premix/rattlecans. I have painted lots of small cycle stuff with dupli over the years though, same rules and it works a treat.

I can't imagine bleeding brakes without getting ANY fluid around the bleeder area... If I try really hard I could keep it pretty clean, but there's gonna be some fluid on the caliper.

Length of clear tube snugly fitted onto the bleeder keeps fluid off caliper.
Direct the waste fluid into a catch bottle.

After bleeding, spray common household rubbing alcohol over the caliper to douche the caliper and rinse off any brake fluid residue. Then blow with compressed air if available.

A 50¢ plastic bottle of rubbing alcohol with a spray attachment is a handy work bench item.

yeah yeah I knew somebody would chime in and tell me how... :lol:

Even so, there's usually just a bit of leakage around the threads of the bleeder. I spose if the paint is fully cured and u clean if off quick it might be OK.
