Funny you say that. The reason I am looking for it is because yesterday I was asking my mechanic about whether he thought soda would remove the paint on the cases of my GPz motor. He said forget soda and get aircraft stripper. BUT he said he forgot where they got it from. He said don't bother with the cheap stuff, get aircraft stripper, I just haven't found it in any of the usual places...

Thanks, there is one in Kingston. I will give them a call before I take the drive.

Just called parts source, and no dice. The NAPA in Napanee has it though, woohoo!

Aircarft paint stripper is generally a stronger mix of methylene chloride and caustic soda than in the stuff sold to the general public. Probably cuts down on lawsuits from idiots who might burn themselves ...Back when my brown & orange '73 was new I worked in a chemical plant that made aircraft paint stripper among other things.

Tranny or chrome plating shops often have degreaser tanks with chemicals strong enough to remove oem black paint from cases etc.

You probably know, but for people that don't, use extreme caution using the Aircraft paint stripers as it will cause an immediate chemical burn if it contacts bare flesh.

Use in a well ventilated area, have eye protection in case of splashes and solvent resistant gloves.

Put the stripper in a metal container as it will attack and soften/ruin any plastic container it contacts.Disposable paint brushes along with a non metallic scraper will be needed to remove paint from confined/tight areas.

Some strippers are designed to be removed using water, others require a solvent, so check the container before purchasing.

I'd avoid the straight methylene chloride for the fumes alone. Commercial grade aircraft stripper has more methylene chloride and caustic in it that will burn you quickly vs. the homestore version. Also has a different gel that's designed to really stick.

Interesting note; I found a can of Canadian Tire paint stripper, the "Really Works" stuff and thought I would give it a try since I already had it. I wasn't expecting much but I took it outside and laid my oil pan down on my driveway and sprayed it. Within about 30 seconds all the paint had lifted off. I shot it with the hose and it looked great, the aluminum was nice and shiny. I then tried it on the cases, and again, this stuff really got the paint off great. BUT when I tried it on the head/ jugs/ valve cover it did nothing. I think those areas just get so hot that the paint is baked on hardcore. You guys think the aircraft stuff will remove the paint on the head/jugs? I am wondering if just sending the head to gord bush or raceworks and having them blast it along with PP would be easier...

I'd let the pro's deal with the stripping, as you mentioned, the paint is probably baked on and resists chemical stripping.

When I spray paint the odd bracket now and then, I use an enamel paint and then after air drying, I bake the part at 350 F in our oven(with the windows open and fan going to avoid nasty fumes/heated discussion with the wife about the smells).

This makes for a durable coating and can some times be hard to remove.

the stuff that is on the top part of the engine is Powder coat and can not be removed by any strippers because it self is not solvent based. That must be blasted off. I have the MIL-Spec paint stripper that will eat threw a steel container and it will not remove the stuff on the engines. Someone told me that ZEP has a product that will remove powder coat but I think that is bull SHIT. Besides the only way to get that stuff is in five gallon containers. REAL aircraft stripper is NOT "Chloride" based I have all of those solvents in five gallon buckets and they work on many paints but they do not work on any two part paints. REAL stripper is Caustic based and not solvent based.
