changing color of emblems was created by Topper
Anybody ever tried to change the colors of the stock emblems on a KZ? In particular I'm looking at badges like this:
Mine have been (badly) painted over. Instead of ordering replacements, I'm thinking about trying to change the original colors by stripping off the bad paint and repainting them.
Anybody else done this? Got some pics?

I dont have pice, but I have done this many times.
Most poplular is just spraying it gloss black, then lightly block poliashing it to reveal the raised metal areas only.
Looks sharp...
Good luck.

if you are wanting them a specific color than you need to strip them and find a good pin striper or sign painter and they can do them any color you want. or you could spend alot of time masking them out.

I've kind of got a combination of these ideas in mind. I want them black and the raised parts silver. I find the gold kind of limiting in creating color schemes.
I've stripped one and am going to spray it black, then try and paint the high parts silver with a paint pen. Then finish it with some clear to protect it a little.

I have done the aluminum tank emblems buy carefully stripping old paint out of the inside of the lettering, puddling in a couple coats of new paint with a brush all the way up on to the silver edge, after a couple hours trim off slopped over edge paint with a fresh X-acto blade held flat/parallel to emblem. If redoing the black use thinned out S.E.M. Trim Black and the same process.

Any pictures would be awesome... I've been thinking of painting my 82 550 tank and side cover emblems black and maybe doing some silver outlining...
My tank emblems don't seem to be painted though...the metal finish seems to be a polished gold color...?

Now I didnt change the color I just redid the original white and black but I just got as much of the old off as possible then taped over the emblem and cut out the area to be painted then some good old duplicolor rattle can light coats a couple times then scrape the top edge with a razor. Had to go back and make some minor touch ups with a brush but all in all very cheap and quick way of doing it at home.

Those are great pics. Can you tell us a little about each of these photos and what phase each of these are in?

The first one is cleaned and taped over and cut off the tape left the letters covered for the black background. The second is tapped over again and cut out the inside of the letters and painted white. The third is first pull off of the tape no touch up or scrapping done yet. But about 5 minutes with a straight razor on the bare metal areas and a couple of dots of touch up in a couple areas. All in all not too much work just the time for the paint to dry.
