Thanks Ben! Despite some small setbacks, it's moving forward. Testarossas idea about ghosting the Z1 paint scheme is a good one. It would make for a dazzling blend of old school look and modern bling. Your not the only one excited about that thought either.
I'll be able to finish the mold today, and possibly demold it this evening :woohoo:

google em...they were in demand in their day...it is a story worth knowing just for it's weird trivia value..they were sixties goupies and their dad was a dentist...which gave them a great idea to record some rock and roll history of their own.....read a short history of em...they "knew" many top of the crop rockers....

Sorry old man, my only claim to fame is that when I was born, my parents lived in a converted carriage house on Ashbury St, next door to the Greatful Dead.
I stopped by Fiberglass Hawaii today to pick up some cloth, and was chatting about my mold alligatoring with one of the guys there. He nodded his head and said it has happened to him too. Appearantly, if you put the second coat of resin on before the first coat has had sufficient time to cure AND the first coat was thin (like sprayed on) then the solvents in the second coat penetrate the first coat and screw it up. It could have been worse, but I would rather not to have had to learn that lesson on the tank. I am grateful that I learned this on the bottom of the tank and not the top though

NOW I got it. I had to look it up though Craig
You'll have to try and use puns that don't reference exploits from 10 years before I was born.
Welcome back from summer vacation timebomb, and thanks for stopping by. I'll take a gander at those websites. At first glance it looks like Phil started both of them and sold Omars DT.
As for the tank, I'll finish up the bottom mold layup tonight. I currently have 2 coats of tooling gelcoat and 2 layers of chopped strand mat. It is ALOT more work to make this mold than it was for the sidecovers. I still need to put on 4 more layers and some steel support tubes. Pics to follow

So if you were going to do the ghost Z1 paint job, how do you do it? Skip the primer, shoot your color super thin, and then clear? What is the trick to spraying ghost paint? Do you adjust the gun to shoot thin, or do you add/subtract something from your basecoat to achieve the translucent look?
