to windshield or not was created by zoo
Hi all!

I live in SC where ther bugs are horrible in the summer and I was wondering if a small windshield would be good for my 75KZ400. I do not want to take away from her vintage look though. Do you have an opinion on to windshield or not? lol If yes, what type is better? Small, low profile oldies look?
Thanks

It took me over twenty years to accept turn signals and mirrors...it may be another twenty before I can do a
windshield or a sissy bar. Just my own preference, to each his own. I do still have to remind myself to ride with my mouth closed to keep the bugs out.

I love my full-face everytime I see how many bugs would have hit me in the mouth. Works here in Houston, and we have a few bugs.

That-a-boy Otto...   Now I'm not a big fan of screens either but does that truly matter, hell no it doesn't.

As mentioned, to each their own, no other way to put it...

That's the beauty of what we do here... Dream, build, create and make it real no matter what others think... ;) Some will think, Whoa, way cool while others will go :X...

Sure, quite a few feel my KZ is total crap where I should have done this or that but my philosophy on it, not their bike... It's mine damn it...

Don't like the head light, too bad... Don't like the paint color theme, too bad, don't like all the buffed out aluminum, too bad... And why.... I didn't build it for them, built for me, for my taste, for what I envisioned.

Or in your case, keep from bug splatter...

Small screens won't do much for bug protection so you'll need to decide, do or don't. If do, then what would look somewhat presentable in your eyes/mind set is all that matters...

Hey Loco, have one of those motorcycle Creativity posters?

Example, you think this guy cares what others think....

See if you can find a picture of a vintage Wixom. If you do, you might be able to find one from time to time on auction sites or at a salvage yard.

The bat wing Wixom is pretty neat in my opinion and will not take away from the vintage look. Shoei made some nice fairings as well.

There is one Wixom and multiple Shoei FM2 and FM3 on a popular online auction site right now.

If you get a windshield, I suggest you get a handlebar mount. Don't get a short one. All that happens is you get a LOT of wind buffeting around your helmet and no protection. You'll need one at least 18 1/2 - 20 inches high. Look at "Memphis Shades".

I have been running a plexi fairing for 30 years, really makes riding more comfortable.

In response to Kirk, You left out Slipstreamer! I have a slipstreamer tombstone on my Kawi. Its a small screen that dosn't take away from the lines of the bike, gives some protection from bugs, and stone/stone chips, and grit, still get some wind, this with modular helmet serve me well, but really don't like the screens that well.
