i used a big effin compressor at a buddys farm. I used sand from menards. I took it in to have it powdercoated and it turned out excellent. No dimples at all, could almost see myself in it

o.k point taken on the sand...i trust arai and since he's the one getting me started on my moto paint path...i will do it his way and see......if he says it can be bad...i'm gonna guess he knows......i tell folks stuff from my trades experience all the time, and then they do it another way and seem to like the results they acheive....as a journeyman i can clearly see the bad stuff...but hey....everyones an expert right....

i wanna do the bearings in the neck-tapered-and some new bushings in the swingarm......i rekon after sanding i should takle these first so i don't bogger the new paint...i'm also thinking of shooting the triples and pegs and all bracketts and boxes while it's apart...should be kinda fun.....

Well Tri you could try eating a bunch of asparagus and then piss on the frame.   I would bet that the paint would peel right off.:woohoo: :woohoo:
Make sure the insides of the frame haven't rusted. Those old frames could break if they corrode from the inside. I would really check that out. You live in Cali so maybe that is not an issue but you do live close to the ocean so maybe after all those years it may have gotten significant oxidation. Who knows just check it and get a brace kit for it and brace it up nice. The older frames flex easier than the new ones the tubes aren't as solid you know.

A couple bucks for 1 X 4 boards to make a stand can make things a lot easier. I used it for more than just the frame.

Now I know how I'm doing my next paint job.

But I'm still curious which side of the engine most people lay the engine on to mount it to the frame. Do you lay thick blankets or boards underneath? Anyone have photos? I saw someone had a nice stand they made...but I'm not that good.. :P

im not sure if its the same for th3 900/1000's but when i did my 750 4, there is one side that you take the motor out from cause there is a motor mount welded to the frame on the other side. Blankets and boards would be a good idea, i just used a couple layers of cardboard. layed the motor on the side, and layed the bare frame over it, put the motor mounts in and tipped it back upright
