Right here is the picture so far, it actually looks better in real life as there is some camera glare.
Another treatment or two and some hard rubbing (the airbox that is)and it will just get better.
No easy fix for these things but it is definitely working.
The area on the left below the holes for the rubbers was completely grey/ white and the area above is moving away nicely.
Try it for yourselves- definitely makes a big improvement. Ideal for the KZ's that don't have the chrome airbox covers either side.

I use lemon oil on my tires. This is because it is a very fine and organic oil that will not brake down the rubber. The problem is that it dries in about 3 days. The question is, how long will this treatment last? and what makes it different than using any other oil to seal the plastic pores. I would think that any oil will shine up the plastic. That is the whole idea of ArmorAll. It uses Silicone to seal the plastic.

Hi Otakar
Please try it, the oil seems to get below the surface and remove any traces of white & grey. I have dried the airbox off so there is no sign of surplus oil, I obviously don't know yet how long it will last. My intention is to give it another couple of treatments with plenty of rubbing it in, I will then clean it off and autowax it.
I am usually very skeptical about these "remedies" and I am not into alternative medicines either, but I am delighted with the results so far.

Can you take another picture from approximately the same angle & zoom as in the first one for comparisons...?

Should also help on flash glare...

Hi OMR
Thanks for your interest in the thread.
What I will do is persevere for a couple of days more and then post the picture result.
Must admit that I am truly amazed but as Otakar said lets seehow long it lasts.
For me it has turned a very average airbox that I might have skipped into something that I will be proud to have on my bike!

What I would try is to wash it now with regular dish washing detergent and see if it is still shiny after that. Also if you are just not making it look so good with the good old "Elbow Grease" that you are applying in copious amounts. I do know one thing and that is, peanut oil like Castor oil turns into a varnish when it drys. This is why peanut oil is used on Iron skillets. You wipe it on and than bake it in. It is as good as Teflon.

Thanks for that link Otakar, That was the one that I originally read.

It definitely works!!!

Pointless exercise making arguments as to why it won't!

Easy solution is try it for yourselves then you have the proof.

I might even try the wintergreen & xylol on the airbox boots!
One thing is for sure is that the 303 SPF40 Aerospace Protectant doesn't make a jot of difference in softening the rubbers. Might be a good idea to spray new ones with it and it could prolong their lives.
