Not sure what paint you mean, so whatever you use, make certain it is fuel proof. I would call the manufacturer to verify.

id use something to chemically treat the areas that were rusted, rust gets into pores of metal and tends to come back if not treated. B) ive been using this stuff for more than 25 years, used to come in white bottle.spray it on let it turn black then sand/prime.when i strip old car bodys ill glass bead them 1st then go over whole body inside and out top-bottem with this stuff ,youd be suprised how much more stuff shows up then i glass bead again.i also let this stuff soak down into corners of body seams where you cant get at to seat them up before blasting everything with dp primer. I use the same stuff and it is amazing how much black shows up after blasting.

btw, has anybody ever bondo filled and rounded the pinch weld on the bottom edge of the tank? I am strongly thinking about it, but am worried about the bondo deciding to fall off one day since that bottom edge is kind of vulnerable.

If your tank is pristine why would you want to add bondo on purpose. If you do not like the seam on the KZ tank try a Z1 tank, it is seamed underneath and hidden by the factory.

I didn't know that about the Z1 tank, maybe because I have never actually seen one...I think I will just keep the seam there and keep my eyes open for a z1 tank, although it will likely cost me a small fortune

'aye' is a response to command. 'Eh' is the Canadianism.

I used duplicolour on my CB400 tank, soon as fuel touched it, it melted away. My mistake was the fact that I used a laquer. I hear that enamel paint is impervious to gasoline.
don't quote me on it, though.

I have been explicitly told do NOT use lacquer.
For gas exposure use ENAMEL.

Check me though, I'm getting *ready* to paint a tank but not a painter.

Car door edging (comes in lots of colors and finishes) does a nice job of finishing that seam.

like that plastic strip stuff that would slip on? That would look kind of ghetto wouldn't it? I suppose no more than making my bike a bondo buggy though...
