John, if no one else answers your query today, I'll get the measurements tonight and post them.

John:

Here are the numbers on the KZ1100B2 (GPz) tank. The distance between the 'c's (measured across the inside of the 'c's) is 114 mm (4.5 inches). The distance from the rear of a 'c' to the end of the 'tab' (and measured on a diagonal to the center end of the 'tab') is 571 mm (22.5 inches). I would be concerned about the how this bigger tank might infringe on the space needs for your seat. My tank also mounts differently than you show on the exploded diagram. There is a prong that mounts vertically into a grommet just anterior to the tab...this is typical for the R, B and J models...perhaps not for the police models (your diagram shows a bolt holding the tank down).

Hope this helps.

The cop bikes are different mounting on rear as Mcdroid states.

Thanks for the info. The tab does not concern me as much of the "C" measurement. Obviously I would like a tank that will just drop in, but I can modify a tab that will fit if all else is good. The seat to is a question. Certainly can be modified if need be but the list of mods gets greater. So maybe just stopping more often for gas is not such a bad thing. Thanks again. If I do the job I will post the results with pics in this wonderful forum.

I have a similar question, different bike. Anyone know a good way to get a bigger tank onto a KZ440 LTD?

It has been a while since I posted the question. Not getting a suitable answer, I took a chance and bought a used KZ650 tank thinking that its taller profile would give me what I needed. But the gamble did not pay off. It was a narrower tank that held the same volume and would not fit my KZ 1000 anyway. So plan B. I bought another KZ1000 tank and cut up both in an attempt to clone them together and get the desired result. Will post the result here with some pics if I have any success.

I thought about doing this. But alas, I do not possess the needed skillz (or tools) to attempt it. :(

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I successfully put a KZ900 tank(almost 5gal) on my 75 H1 , I had to remove the stock tank mounts off and made brackets and rewlded the new mounts to the frame, the tank is huge and looks awesome, all it takes is a little creativity

About half way through my tank rebuild. To recap bought a KZ650 tank and a second KZ1000P tank. Cut them in two. Bottom of 1000P top of 650. Tack welded them together. Bent and hammered a little here and there. In the process of fully welding today. Only tool used other than a welder is a Dremel type tool. The finished tank is not going to be a looker but with bondo and paint will not frighten small children and will hopefully give me the greater capacity needed. Will keep posting updates. Pictures so far are here:

So how'd this come along?

I only get about 160 km on my tank (not including res.), and would definitely like to cover more than that. I think I've got about 46 mpg with the bike right now, which (I think) is decent considering it isn't fully tuned up.

So - any further options on the larger tank yet?

..this would be for a 550-F2 btw.

Completed the tank. The photos at this link show the results.

I can now get 5 gallons exactly in the tank and can go 200 miles on a good day, 150 on a normal run.
