paint effect

Hi, OMR has motivated me to repaint my motorcycle. Originally I wanted to repaint it in the burgundy colour that is already on it but have decided to do green. I have refinished a few guitars so am comfortable with spraying solid, or metallic flake colours, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to achieve this "textured" look

I have used "Sherwood Green" for a guitar but wasn't too happy with the result, does anyone know of a good green metallic paint that would look like this, and how they achieved the effect? I am going to guess that maybe the tank was painted with a black metallic initially, and then the skull and texture elements were airbrushed after with a lighter colour, maybe silver or something, and then a few coats of the green to basically tint the design...am I totally off?

First paint your green, let dry, then get some dot3 brake fluid. Apply it to areas you want the effect, then quickly hose it off. The fluid will just eat the paint enough for the effect. Takes some practice though.

put down your base coat and let it dry.then apply a top coat and get a big old wad of saran wrap and start blotting it all over until you get the texture you want,then let it dry and color sand and buff or whatever to finish.that's how i heard it was done anyway,ymmv.

Yeah, but how much scratch would it cost for them to do it for me? Even assuming I did all the prep work and sent them a primed tank and side covers it would cost a mint!

I'd love to have mine redone, but the cost has stopped me.
I did the fairing, lower chin scoop and front fender with a spray can. They would not hold up to a gas spill though.
To have it all painted would probably cost me $1000!

Somewhere I read about a guy who used some type of paint/clear in a can recently that was supposed tom stand up to a gas spill. It wasn't cheap for a canned spray paint, but much cheaper than a professional job.

We have a few painters on site here.
What would a typical paint job cost? Tank, side covers and tail?

For paint chose your weapon of choice... For holding up to gas, USE A 2 PART CLEAR COAT. and not can clear coat products.
