I took the 900 tank to a paint shop and he said 1.200 to paint it. Well I just cant see spending that kind of money on a 76 900. I would like info on what kind of gun to buy and anything I might need to do a good job. I had looked on this site back when i painted it with a can and info about Duplicolor was what i found.

Dave, I located a 74 z1. It is a basket case. I was thinking of buillding something on the lines of your bike. That or making it a real Mad Max beater. Maybe I'll road trip to Arizona for some help.....?

For a decent NON PROFESSIONAL paint job...

If you have a air compressor, a good paint sprayer &
Automotive paint & clear coat from Eastwood..

www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=1334

Same time... Dupli-Color can paint but NOT CAN CLEAR COAT... Prevail Unit is just fine and will produce a decent paint job...

For plastics, bare chrome/aluminum, use Red Dog adhesion promoter first.

Prep is everything for if prep, flash times, cures times, wet sanding etc.... are done incorrectly or you're just trying to rush through it, forget it, it will look like crap no matter which paint sprayed or can you use...

For clear coats, you must use a 2 or 3 part automotive clear coat (Eastwood or Sherwin Williams Automotive paints). The Prevail unit is what I used with good results.

Now I'm sure others will chime in but as mentioned, for a non professional reasonably inexpensive paint job, this will be just fine and as mentioned, prep, cure times and proper clear coats this will last numerous years. ;)

Dave

If I get it I won't part with it. Been in a boneyard near Oklahoma for 20 plus years. It has a bunch missing but the motor and frame are still together.

Greg.. I would love to find something like that... Envious!

Me personally, I'd keep it total stock in the restoration... Once you start on her definitely open up a project file for us to follow....

Yeah something tells me to keep it stock. But there is so much missing from it. It doesn't seem like it will ever fly. I have been hunting this pig for 5 years. I hope my ship finds port. I'm scarred that some redneck jerkwater hillbilly will buy it and make yard art from it.

Hey!! I resemble that remark!

For spray equipment I've used a gravity feed hvlp reduction gun for years with an oil less compressor and a dryer and regulator. I know it's not as nice as some, but it does the job for this part timer. My dad has a dedicated hvlp he uses for laquer... just can't get him to let me put color in it..
